Do not approachThese words were plastered to the walls with my fake name adorning every wanted poster. In reality I was very mild mannered and smart. I lead a very determined group of kids that the sentinels called The Unseen. By the name you asume we lurk in shadows and in dark alleyways, but the sentinels are wrong as always. We live among everyone else. We go to school and do our work. Society is crumbling in our already dystopian world. The great wars had killed most of the population almost 100 years ago.
"Onyx." My eyes focused on a girl in front of me on her knees effectively pulling me from my history lesson. I was sitting at the front end of a table covered in moss that we had moved into the woods. Jasper cleared his throat. "As I was saying I think we should lay low for a while. The polotician we just took out has the sentinels going nuts surveying people." Jasper pushed his blond hair from his face on his last word. "We need to go about our business. Classes start next week and we need to keep the killings even so they don't figure out the pattern. I vote one killing every three weeks." My deep voice radiated through the empty woods.
"We need to focus on our goal Onyx. Total eradication of the new world. Our society is crumbling quickly and as the new generation we have a job to stop this." Down at the end of the table Kristal spoke up. I tapped my fingers on the table and rolled my tongue around. "If we stop killing now then the sentinels will know it's a school aged child. How many lives have you taken yet Kristal?" All five teen people looked down the table to her, including the girl at my feet. "None, I don't do the killing I do the planning." Her voice shook slightly. I smiled. "Then you should know that the way to get to the heart is though being heard. We need to strike fear into the hearts of the government. We need to grow and finish what we have started." I relaxed back into my chair after I finished speaking and everyone around me burst into conversation. Jasper looked down at me and nodded in aproval. I led this group of banded kids and I wouldn't let anyone go unheard. I stood. "Silence!" The voices dwindled down and five teen eyes looked at me. "We have someone new today. Bring the book Lucas and the tattoo gun." Lucas was scrambling to get everything in order and I guided the girl to sit in an empty chair. "Today we welcome you into our world Alex. We hope you will help bring down the corrupt and live to tell the tail of your bravery." I handed her the book to sign and a pen. Her name was scrawled in red ink over a page with all of our names on it and a pressed the tattoo needle into the shoulder blade to drag down three lines to the middle of her back in practiced motions. The group around us erupted in loud cheers as everyone stood and clapped the new member on her lines.
Jasper came and stood next to me. "We should probably find a new place to meet. Osker has informed me that he has heard news of the sentinels spreading their search out into the the woods." I nodded. "Tell everyone we will meet at my house until further notice. Every day after school starts. And get with Kristal and make plans for the next target. Someone not as high profile as the last." Jasper only nodded at my words and scurried away to tell everyone the news. The group disbanded at the sound of sticks cracking around us, everyone pulling black cloths over their nose and mouth and darting away from the sound. I jumped up and ran for Nulgran, the city just a mile out from the woodland area. My district came into view and I tore the cloth off of my face. Buildings the size of mountains had fallen over, some leaned on top of each other with trees growing freely under. Building 6704 was an old office building my grandma had said where people would come to work for almost nine hours and then go to a regular home. I couldn't imagine my home being a work place. I lifted myself into the long broken window, ready for sleep. The soft moss bed was undisturbed from the night before and my tin cups littered the cracked tile floor. I shoved down onto the moss and tore my leather boots off followed by pants and a t shirt. I lay there looking at the gaps in the floor and touched the blue grass that grew there. A warm weight sat on top of my back and a wet tongue lapped at my ear. ''I missed you Sage." The big brown dog sat on my back panting and trying to keep her balance on my form. I shut my eyes, not intending on sleep but it attacked me like bugs attack a stag corpse.
