It Was Oh So Simple

It was raining. A lot. I was walking. For ages. Same as usual, Arctic Monkeys drilling into my eardrums. It was cold, but it was Manchester, in Winter, what exactly was there to expect?

It had even a bad day, Taylor had been a fucking bitch to Dani, well, she was a jealous cow, Dani had Harry now, they'd been together for almost a year now, she needed to get over it.

When I'd see Liam, it would be ok, he'd laugh about it and I'd listen to their rehearsal and then we'd go to his house and the we'd... Well, it deepened what mood we were in.

The rain was pouring more heavily now, I hadn't brought an umbrella, I was almost there. Just before I was about to sing along to the lyrics blasting through my ears, a car speeded past, way above the limit and splashed me.

"Thanks a lot mate!" I shouted, finger in the air.

By the time I'd got to Louis' road, I was completely drenched, yeah I was gonna get the wet joke for definite. I just wanted to be with Liam. Just alone, with no one else, just him to myself.

Louis had the biggest house and was the only one who had a garage. Well they were the only garage band around here. He also had the greatest parties, I'm not even sure where his parents went, maybe they had a secret basement. What the fuck was I going on about?

I was here, completely drenched. Liam, waiting to the side smiled at me, trying to hold in a laugh but epically failing.

"All right?" He said, looking up and down at the wet pieces of material clinging to my body, makeup probably everywhere.

"Yeah, but remind me to have a shower at yours" I said, going in for a hug.

"I don't think I'll need much reminding" he said, kissing me on the cheek

"I look foreword to it." I said, smiling in his ear.

That's when we came out of the hug.

" How was your day?" He asked, still smiling.

"Shit" I said with a sigh. The others began to call him then.

" Got to get back, you can tell me all about it in the shower." He said, jogging back, his smile brighter.

I went into the kitchen where the girls were, drinking hot chocolates, how I did envy them.

"Hi," I said, diving into a seat from exhaustion.

" Hot chocolate?" Asked Cloe. I nodded, just imagining what I looked like. They were talking about the band and their next gig at the theatre, I loved the way things had turned out for the ten of us, we all just fitted together nicely, one of us all had a different part to play. The boys were a year older then us, apart from Niall, bless him. He was lovely, obsessed with Nando's but lovely. Cloe and him went together like a house on fire. It seemed like it was meant to be.

Then there was Helen and Zayn, they were great, Helen was brilliant at dance and Zayn tried his best to keep up with her, but he would always epically failed. Lex and Louis were probably the cutest couple, they did everything together. Harry and Dani were the newest couple, they'd always liked each other and everyone knew it. They went so well together but kept a lot of went on between them private. And that left me and Liam, we'd been best friends in primary school, as we got older, it kinda grew into it. I'm not really sure how people viewed us, but I didn't care,

I knew I loved him.

A lot of people made the mistake that we were the bands groupies. We called it 'the band' cos the name always changed, at the moment it was called 'the direction', it had been the bands name for three months now, some kind of personal best.

We had all been friends since forever, especially in secondary school, we'd moved up to the sixth form this year and here we were, second week of the school year.

After practice, Liam drove me back to his place, like he always did. He made the same comment about the current weather which he always did and held my hand whilst he drove. This all seemed quite normal, but it just felt so wrong. I had no idea what it was, I couldn't put my finger on it.

He was nervous, I could tell, but that was all I could figure out. There was an endless possibility to what it was about though.

After a few minutes he said "we need to talk", which kinda set me on edge.

"Ok" I said, trying to hide the nervousness in my voice and epically failing.

" We don't know the full details yet but..." He sighed, I raised my eyebrows, the tension was killing me.

" You know that guy off the X factor, Simon Cowell?" He said, I wasn't sure if he was still on the subject or not.

" The one who ruined music as we know it, I've heard of the man." I said, trying to make a joke out of it but Liam's expression was blank, very blank, it almost scared me.

" He's offered us a record deal." He said. I didn't really didn't understand. Wasn't this good news? Or had I gone mad, cos at the moment, it looked like he'd just ran over a puppy, maybe he did and I just didn't notice.

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed, "this is brilliant!" I said, not sure if I should hug him, it looked like he was about to have a fit.

"You don't mind?" He said, asking and stating at the same time.

" Why would I mind?" I asked, thinking that I'd missed a major part of this.

" We'll be traveling a lot." He said.

The problem was starting to click together in my head.

" By the end of this year well have the track released and touring round the continent." Right.

That was the problem. He wanted me to come with him. And give up my a levels. And any chance to get to uni.

" you ok?" He asked, genuine concern filled his voice as the cogs started turning in my head.

" What? Yeah course."

"Sam," he said, he always called me that for no apparent reason " I know when your not happy, I know it's a big deal and I know how set you are on broadcasting." I closed my eyes, that's what I'd wanted to do since I was a kid, that was my goal, before him, before anything big or real or scary. " but Simon Cowell, he's got contacts in that industry."

" it's not the same you know." I said, focusing on the street lamp outside my window, I could feel this getting into a fight.

" How?" He said, really not getting it.

" it's cheap television Liam, completely fake and plastic, I'd rather work in...children's telly." He laughed at that, he knew how much I hated children's tv, so stupid, building up to complete crap.

" But it's a start right?" He asked as he took my hand.

" I need to think, so do you, it's late, I should get back to Ed." I said, checking my phone for the time, half nine and it was as dark as night. Well, technically it was night, but that wasn't the point.

" I love you Sam." He said, as I began to get out of the car. I sent a quick text Ed for him to pick me up, he owed me.

" You know I do to, I just got to sort this out." I said, hand on my head, trying to soothe a head ache by the magic of touch.

He still had my hand, the grip was tight, but not painful.

" Where do you think your going?" He asked, a smirk on his lips.

" well, I guess I have some time to kill." I said, trying to look flirtatious but sounding like some sort of pervert. He laughed,

" come here." He said, and I did as he commanded, like some sad old dog, pun not intended. He kissed me, and pulled me to his lap, after about thirty seconds of that, we just hugged, it was cold and I only had a light hoody.

He put his coat around me and turned his air conditioning on and put one of his stupid songs in the CD player, it didn't matter to me though, because in a strange sort of way this was pure heaven
