Indigo ran her fingers over the lace on the bottom of her veil for the thousandth time that night. Her mind wasn't in the conversation that seemed pointless. She had drank her mug of hot chocolate with in minutes this time.
They had settled into a silence that echoed with thoughts everyone was combing through.
Suddenly as if all three siblings had the same thought they looked up and said in unison "can you keep a secret?" then silence washed over them as they sll nodded.
Luka was the first to speak "father knows. He watched me heal a deer. But it was diffrent this time. The deer had died and suddenly just come back when i laid my hands on him." the siblings sat in silence once again as the news that one of them could raise the dead fell over them.
"Lucinthia died today." Indigo said and Luka grabbed her hand to comfort her "She left the throne to me and I feel lost. No human has ever held the throne." silence again as they thought about how lives were changing.
"Seribia told me i love you." Zine said.
Indigo was the first to respond to anything "Isn't that a good thing? I mean know you're sworn to celibacy but you've liked this girl for a while. And its about time she became your girl friend."
Zine snapped suddenly and yelled "Seribia is not my girlfriend!" terror ran through both his younger siblings.
"I know i was just saying you deserve to be happy with a nice girl." Indigo said quietly trying to calm him down only inflaming him more.
"Seribia is not a girl." he shouted.
"What?" Indigo asked more in shock than in misunderstanding
"I'm gay. Okay. I like men. No girls. That part of my gift i made up so i wouldn't have to marry." he yelled.
The room fell silent as his words sunk in. Zine felt a pit in his stomach form. He didn't mean to say that. He meant to be secretive about it until he got the throne. Until nothing bad could happen when he came out.
"Indigo, you owe me twenty lucinthians." Luka said and Zine looked up at them in shock.
"I know. I know i just figured maybe he was just feminine because he spent so much time with me growing up." Indigo said reaching into her dress pocket for the money.
"Wait what?" Zine asked
"She didn't think you were gay but I knew you were. I mean it made the most sense. You can't rub off your veiw of other girls on to people Indigo. No matter how much time you spent together." luka said collecting his reward
"I can hope to be right." she turned to Zine "There is nothing wrong with who you are. I just wanna win one of these bets." Indigo put her hand on Zines shoulder. "If you love Seribia, then live a life of love. But if you don't know yet, there is no shame in waiting a little while to see." she looked deep into his eyes. She had a feel in her chest that burst and suddenly she was in a darkened corner of a pub in town. "But its to late to wait because you already told him you loved him." she said dropping her gaze.
The room fell cold again. "H-how did you know that?" Zine asked stepping away from her.
"I saw it. I saw it through your eyes. I hope you mean it one day. I hope you don't break his heart. I hope you don't break your own." the room was quiet dor a long while.
After what seemed like hours but could have been minutes Luka said "so we have a liar, a physic, and a resurrectionist. There has to be a joke somewhere in there." and the three laughed. Half heartedly but still a laugh.
After an hour or two of conversations none of them cared about the two others siblings left to their designated rooms.
When Luka returned to his room he found himself drawing in his study books. It was face he was sure he had never seen before but at the same time it was so familiar. He continued to draw the markings on the face until he was to exhausted to stay up any later.
When Indigo returned to her room she jumped in shock at a person on thr foot of her bed.
"Social Repose you scared me." she said placing her hand on her chest.
He looked up at her slightly concerned but still mostly in thought. "What do you do in there?" he asked ignoring her statement.
This caught her by surprise. Social Repose had come in to her room on five occasions when she was coming back from her brothers room and this was the first he had asked of it.
"We talk mostly." she said "sometimes till dawn sometimes on brief subjects that last an hour. And on rare occasions until exhaustion takes its toll and we all fall asleep. It happens nightly and we drink tea or hot chocolate usually doused in cinnamon. Why do you only now ask? I can think of five seperate occasions that you have waited here to find me come from that door but never said a word." she finished as she sat down next to him bringing her knee up to rest beside him with her face turned toward him.
Social Repose turned his head to look at her. He became annoyed with the veil. He understood why she wore it around the castle and up to the woods edge, but her room was her place to just be. He did not like that she was so rarely herself.
Slowly he took the ends of the veil and pulled it up and over her head before finding her eyes.
To Indigo this was an intimate action that threw her off. She wasn't used to such closeness or the feeling of her heart bounding in her chest.or the raw feeling in her throat that burned as she stared him in the eyes waiting to see what he would do next.
Eyes were such a dangerous thing. You could show your whole soul to someone if you weren't careful.
Social Repose wasn't careful and Indigo knew what he was going to do before he did it. If only for a brief second.
Social Repose leaned down and briefly brushed his lips against hers before he backed away and out of Indigo's room.
Indigo sat feeling confused and fuzzie on the inside. She slowly brought her fingers to her lips before she smiled and fell on to her bed and cuddled her duvet falling asleep in a dizzying state of happiness and confusion
