Derek's Pov

Why was this happening to him, and why now? He wanted nothing to do with that girl he had to go pick up tomorrow. She had been in his mind since the first time he met her and now he was in charge of her. How could they live in the same house without him doing something stupid? All these unanswered questions were making his head hurt. He heard a knock at his bedroom door and his sister walked in.

" When are you leaving to get it?"

"It's not an 'it', it is a girl. Emily remember, you met her ones a couple of years ago."  She rolled her eyes as sat down in one of the chairs in the corner of his room.

"I just don't understand why they picked you of all people. After the things you did to them and to her." He was just as confused as she was, but he wasn't about to let his little sister know that.

"I know. All we can hope for is the best now. Did you finish putting everything in her room and getting it ready? Your staying a few more weeks right?" It was just him and his sister after both his parent's died so long ago. She was just staying a few weeks wile passing though town, but now he hoped she would stay longer so it wouldn't be just him and Emily in the house, alone.

" Are you kidding me? I don't want to be anywhere near that bitch. I will be long gone by the time you two get back." He already knew that was what she was going to say, he just hoped she would change her mind. She got up to leave and before she left the room she turned back to him," just don't do anything you will regret and you know what I mean. I know what that girl does to you and your phone is about to ring to tell you your car is here to take you to the airport." Then she was gone and not five seconds later, his cell phoned started buzzing. He was going to miss his sister.

It seemed like a century later, but he finally landed in Ohio and made his way to Emily's parent's lawyers office. As soon as he walked in he knew she was there, and walking up the stairs he saw her. She didn't even glance at him, because she really didn't remember him and he wanted to keep the past in the past so without even looking at her, even though it was hard he walked past her into the office and shut the door.

"Mr. Cooper I assume. My name is Mr. Green, please take a seat." With the door shut he could finally breathe. As he sat down he could see the man watching his every move.

" Shall we start?" I asked.

"Yes, well here is the copy of the will and the paper for the life insurance," he handed him a folder. When he looked up Mr. Green looked like he wanted to say something.

"Was there anything else?"

"Just a few personal questions I have to ask."

"Shoot."

"How old are you?"

"Twenty four."

"What do you do for a living and how much do you make?"

" I own the only grocery store in town and I also own one of the only mall's within twenty miles of any other town and I make more then enough." Mr. Green asked a few more questions that were easy to answer until he asked the last one.

"What was your relationship with Emily's parents"

" I was... a family friend of theirs back in the day. Her father and I went to school together in New York."

" Have you ever met Emily before?"

"When she was young. She wouldn't even know who I was now."

" Then allow me to introduce you too." This was the moment he had been dreading.
