"What happened Disha? Please elaborate." Why was she hell bent on giving me a headache ?
"Niti." She uttered one word and that was cue. What had Niti done that had pissed Disha off to such an extent ? I thought I and Disha were over.
"What ?"
"She's trying to signal media to link you and her up ! She wants you to go in her direction, far away from me . Why is she like this?"
"What did she do Disha? Will you please be clear?"
And what followed the next five minutes was a pretty elaborate explanation of how Niti had done a typo in one of her twitter chats and because of the particular typo , her reply had turned out to be 'walking in the right PARTH' instead of 'walking in the right path.' I was pretty sure it was a typo because Niti wasn't known to try such gimmicky strategies for no reason at all. Moreover she wasn't even talking to me on her own off late, even if she did , it was just on a professional basis, and of course if she wanted the media to link the two of us up , she could have done that way back and not out of the blue all of a sudden. We still had the only spoken professional pact between us and neither of us showed signs of remotely interfering into each other's personal lives. We tried to, at least.
"It must have been by mistake." I said, but then bit my lip. She would again accuse me of having something with her and then cry over it for two hours. She would blame Niti and probably do something worse and that would hurt Niti again and hence increase my guilt.
"Yeah sure. You don't know." She said, whilst sobbing. Her eyeliner was smudging a bit now, but she took care to wipe the smudged eyeliner with her kerchief as tidily as she could .
"Disha , please. We don't have anything between us." I said, more like persuaded. Was it so difficult to get into her head?
She gave me a questioning look as if it was said by me the first time. "But we can go back to normal. How can you side her Parth ? We're meant to be. You love me, I love you and we can be like normal celebrity couples."
LOVE.
I didn't love her. Not anymore. I didn't feel an ounce of attraction every time I saw her. My heart had stopped somersaulting with her around. And she was talking of love ?
"I don't love you." I bluntly replied. Did she deserve any more explanations ? No.
I turned my face from her because I knew what she was going to ask me next, and sure enough, she did.
"And you love Niti?"
"Disha I don't love her." I admitted, because I did NOT. At least, not yet.
"Then why are you taking her side?" She asked. Her voice turned more suspicious than gloomy as she tried looking at me.
"I'm not. I'm trying to show you the reality."
"Have you been hanging out with her ? How would you know what's going on in her mind?"
"Because she's not like that Disha."
"And you think I'm a liar ? A cheater ? Someone who speaks rubbish always? My assumptions can be true as well."
"But they're not." I raised my voice.. I needed no disturbance and she was doing just that. I faced her.
"How do you know?"
I clutched both her shoulders tightly and decided to mellow down this time. Taking a deep breath, I spoke slowly.
"She's not like that, and that's where the matter ends. Now bye. This is my work place."
