Back in the common room, (now including Ron, who was half asleep as they woke him up from the couch) they were all seated around the fire facing Annabeth.
"Explain," Harry demanded. The candlelight flickered against the lenses of his glasses, making his eyes literally look like they were flaming in anger.
"I was going to." Annabeth looked annoyed and completely unperturbed by the fiery image.
"Are you sure, Wise Girl?" Percy whispered.
Annabeth nodded. "They should know." Then she raised her voice so the others could hear and cleared her throat. "Okay, let's start at the beginning. Do you three know about Greek gods?"
"What?" Ron said, but Harry and Hermione nodded their heads.
"I know there's Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Ares, Athena, Apollo and Artemis," Hermione offered. "They're some of the important ones."
"That's a start," Thalia said evenly, smirking slightly at the title, the important ones. If only they knew how important Hecate was, and Nemesis and Hypnos and all the other supposedly minor gods.
"Okay then. Well, Ron, basically the ancient Greeks believed that the gods made up the world. There's a god of water, a god of the sun, a goddess of wisdom, a god of healing, even a goddess of hygiene. There are also myths that those gods met with mortals and, um, had children with them," Annabeth explained, stuttering in an attempt to describe the relationships between gods and mortals.
Ron gagged in an overly exaggerated fashion, earning a slap and a scowl from Hermione. "Oh hush, Ron. Don't be immature."
"But it's disgusting! Why would you just make a baby with random people you've never met? I bet those kids had real problems when they grew up." Ron said, shuddering.
"Oh yeah, real problems," Percy muttered angrily to Annabeth.
"Anyways," Thalia snapped. "Those children, or demigods, grew up and did great things. For example, Heracles, fought many monsters and eventually was offered immortality, which he took. And yes," she said quickly to Harry who was about to speak up. "His name is Heracles. Not Hercules. That's his Roman form."
"Huh." Harry was staring very attentively at them. Percy guessed that was the most he'd paid attention all year.
"Other demigods did famous things. You know George Washington? Child of Athena, the goddess of Wisdom and battle strategy," said Annabeth proudly. "Amelia Earhart, Daughter of Zeus. Blackbeard, son of Ares. Circe, daughter of Hecate. You get the idea."
"Still think they have problems, Ron?" Nico asked coldly. Ron flushed though it may just have been the glow of the fire.
"Demigods still exist today. In fact, you know some."
Harry perked up. "Really? Who? That's so cool! I bet they're awesome."
Annabeth chuckled. "Are you really that dense? We are demigods."
Hermione frowned. "Unlike the wizarding world, the gods are intricate myths. For one, Circe is actually a witch, one of the most powerful recorded in the wizarding community. She taught at Beauxbatons for fifteen years in 1703 before retiring. And Amelia Earhart..." she trailed off as she noticed four states targeted at her.
Then Ron spoke up. "I agree with Hermione. You do understand you sound crazy, right? Harry?"
Harry slowly shook his head. "Nah, it seems legit. I mean, we're wizards for goodness sakes. If Hagrid can gamble for dragon eggs, why can't they have gods as parents?"
