Looking at my boss' text, I smiled. Not because he was thinking about getting some, but because he tried to be funny about it. I told Isaac once how stoic he is on one of our many nights together.

Isaac, my boss, didn't want a relationship either and we were sorta friends. One night we were under pressure to get a portfolio turned in and one thing lead to another. There are no actual feelings when we fuck, just the nice feeling of relieving stress.

Putting thoughts of Isaac aside, I got dressed and decided I'd go out to find something to eat. Before I left I felt my phone vibrate.

Ivy: Wanna have lunch together? :3

Me: If it's your treat!

Ivy: Slut. Fine, okay. Meet me in the lobby in 10

I made sure I grabbed my wallet, hotel key, and phone before making my way to meet Ivy.

"Wanna get something small before we head to the Santa Monica Pier?" She linked her arm through mine as we walked in step together.

"Sure, not like we haven't been there loads of times before." I rolled my eyes, ignoring my stomach rumbling in hunger.

"Well William hasn't," I stopped and looked at her confused. Is William joining us? Oh my, I don't think I can find an excuse to get smashed tonight. It's not that I'm not glad he's back into my life, but I don't know how to feel uncomfortable around him.

"I figured since we all have one more day in the hotel and since he's transferring to UCLA, we could show him some sights.Plus, I thought maybe you'd want to see him again. You weren't in your room this morning, so I'm guessing things went well with you and William?" Ivy nudged my ribs for answers I didn't want to give her. Not yet at least.

Before I could respond Ivy stopped. "Shit, I forgot to tell William to meet us here." She pulled her phone from her bag and called William.

Totally not gonna be weird.

We decided to get lunch at this small café where they had something we all could agree on, and sat in silence. It wasn't a comfortable silence either; it was very uncomfortable.

"So William," Ivy wiped her mouth with a napkin and then sat it on her lap, "have you found a place near campus?"

"Yes, I signed for the lease before the wedding. It's only about a 10 minute walk from my apartment to the university." William took a sip from his coffee, avoiding to look in my direction. Which really bothered me.

"Wow, you're very lucky! We have to take the bus to get to the university since we couldn't afford anything closer." Ivy bit into her fajita wrap. "Ishn't that right?" Ivy covered her mouth with her hand as she talked and kicked me under the table, silently urging me to join in the conversation.

"What are you majoring in?" I turned to William who looked at me like I was the most confusing thing ever. My smile wavered a bit when I began to feel uncomfortable, waiting for him to reply. He did that last time too at the reception dinner.

"I got my BFA in Studio Art and am going to get my masters in Art." William gave me a forced smile before stabbing his salad with his fork. Poor thing.

"What kind of art?" Ivy chimed in interested since she's also an art major, but not a fine arts major.

"Sculpting was my main thing," he proudly smiled. I don't think I remember him ever being interested in art much. I know his older brother was. Mathew was more of a painter though, and he made this one mural on his room door that was just mind blowing. I bet he got better and must be phenomenal now!

"How is Mathew?" I asked, regretting it as soon as I asked when William stayed still and his look was distant. Ivy gave me a frown mouthing What's wrong? I shrugged because I don't know. Maybe they were on bad terms now, but back then he idolized Mathew, so maybe they aren't talking...

"He's...good." William struggled to find the right words. "And what about your degree? You said you were majoring in History, right? What about a minor?" William changed the subject and I let it slide. It's not like I should have any right to know, right?

"I'm minoring in English and American Lit. I'm hoping to go back and get a bachelor degree for anthropology." I couldn't help but get excited talking about college. If it was a few years ago, I would cringe at the mere thought of college.

I hated my freshman year by forcing myself to think I loved science. Everything was a mess with my family, the drinking, and fooling around, I let myself go too. Worst of all was my GPA that dropped to a 2.39. It took a while until I got my shit together and took control of my life and grades.

"Well, not like I'm not in college but," Ivy sat her napkin on her plate, indicating that she was done. "We should head to the Pier. I want to show William all the good places to get funnel cakes and food!" Ivy treated food like it was air. No matter what she ate or how much she ate, her metabolism prevented her from gaining weight.

William gave a small smile and nodded, pulling his wallet out to leave a generous tip. When he saw me staring, he smiled and suddenly the weight of my boss' text got heavy in my pocket. But, that should be normal, right?
