DISCLAIMER: I do not own the song this fanfiction is based off of. Credit for the song used, Let Me Go by Christian Kane goes to Christian Kane and song writers. They were sitting on his tailgate

And she was lovin' on his rough neck

And she was talking about running away

And he was puffin' on a cigarette

Just thinkin' (huh)

How am I gonna say goodbye?

He said, girl you got it good here

And you don't need to mess with

A guy going nowhere

She said how's about Texas?

He got up and shook his head

Then he said, ain't you been listening?

It's never gonna work out

And I think it'd be a good time now to

Let me go

The stars were high in the Georiga sky that night as Dawson Cates sat on the tailgate of his beat up Chevy truck in an old abandoned field. His legs hung over the edge and he stared at the ground as his girlfriend, Arielle Drake who was sitting behind him, arms wrapped around his broad chest and shoulders while she kissed his neck and tangled her fingers in his semi-long brown locks of hair that she apparently loved so much. She was talking about everything under the sun as she loved on him and while he puffed on the cigarette that he held in his fingers, flicking the ashes off absentmindedly. Arielle was actually talking about running away..wanting to run away. She whispered things in his ear like "why can't we just go?.." or "is there really anything here for us?" And "we could just go, just run away." This made a sigh escape from Dawson's lips. How was he going to break the news that he didn't think he could keep doing this to her? He didn't want to hurt her..because Arielle was one of a kind, but if he didn't do it now, he'd be stuck leading her on and hurting her without her even knowing he was doing it.

Dawson shook his head and moved to let Arielle know that he wanted her to stop for a second and listen to him. Taking a deep breath his bright blue eyes looked in Arielle's, his gaze saying he was almost sorry for what he had to do. "Arielle, just know that every time I said I love you, that I've meant it but there's just things I have to do. But you don't need something like me. You deserve better than what I am. I'm just a bum goin' nowhere." His thick southern accent that again, Arielle found so sexy, was clouded with sadness that came from how he knew she was about to be hurt. But wasn't this better than leading her on for years..maybe forever if he didn't do this now? It simply had to be better than that. Arielle seemed to be stunned for a second but then Dawson watched her sit up on the tailgate beside him. "This is the beer talking babe.." Dawson heard her say. "How about we could pack up this old truck and we could head off to Texas? I've read so much about it..and it seems like a nice place."
