It has been one and a half years since our five year journey began. In all honesty, it was nothing short of boring. Although there were those few occasions that the Captain of his companions on the mission would get into trouble, there wasn't much else going on.I assume that my job, as a leading nurse, is at least a tiny bit more intriguing than one of engineering, considering I at least see new things everyday. Like a few days back, when a crew member decided it was a great idea to swallow a cup of cinnamon. The poor fool was using a breathing tube for days.
But it still wasn't enough.
Maybe my boredom also has to do with the fact that I have no one. There is no one like me. Not after the event that took place two months after my eighth birthday, that is.
My birth planet is one of the name Merylia. It lies just on the outskirts of the Milky Way, hidden by the dark, void planet Nylon. My planet was a happy place. Children danced in the sun and cherished the everlasting light from the Orb, which was a bright energy source that acted like Earth's atmosphere and core put together.
The people were even more breathtaking, the royals more specifically. Our race had been around for millions upon billions of years, and throughout that entire time, the royal bloodline continued. They had flowing, midnight black hair with the whitest of white eyes. The tattoos that decorated my kind's bodies were not hidden or shamed, like they are on Earth, but instead embraced and shown off. The royals spent centuries building and perfecting their world, not letting any sort of imperfection be present. Then they made my people. Unlike the royals, we had violet eyes and caramel hair, however we both shared the thick lines of black covering our bodies.
My parents had raised me to be a polite child. Our utopia of a society believed in non-violence on the streets, but also that if something were to happen, weapons were locked and loaded on standby just in case.
Too bad those guns were turned the wrong way.
Now there is no perfect utopia; now there is no place to call home. Just the thought brings tears to my eyes. All that potential and greatness, wasted. Wasted all because a group of individuals became too easily manipulated and believed the enemy was within.
Boy were they wrong.
The Kilorns came out of seemingly nowhere; an old race forgotten by time. After years of being in the dump they call their planet, they finally had the guts to come and take our own. With the help of those who despise everything our planet stands for, including happiness and freedom, they took over our planet and killed each and every one of us.
Some days I like to wonder what would have happened if I had not been visiting my Uncle Robert that day, if I hadn't been taking some time away from my family because of the split with my parents.
There was no second chances now.

My hands rapidly typed away at the keyboard in front of me in the Medbay. Eighteen patients had come here in the past seven hours; five patients were shocked in Engineering trying to fix cut wires, nine got the aftershock trying to assist the five, and the rest were just idiots who had one two many beers trying to pass the time.I am quick to finish my report on the drunk men, and manage to spare my nails from any damage of tapping the keys. Within five minutes I'm ready to head out the door, that is until I am stopped by the one and only Leonard 'Bones' McCoy.
"Did you finish all of your rounds and reports?" Bones approached me slowly, not looking up once to make eye contact.
I awkwardly began to shift from foot to foot, "Just finished Dr. McCoy. If that is all, I'd like to take off and get some sleep."
Bones just gave me a brief nod before running off and meeting with yet another electrically shocked man. I turned on my heels and began my short journey back to my quarters. The hallways were empty at this time of night. Occasionally I would pass one or two members of the ship, but it was definitely nothing compared to the lunch rush hour. Bonus for me that all of my shifts were during these times and not with a bunch of individuals.
I was quick making it back to my quarters, thanks to the near empty hallways. The metal door slid almost silently shut behind me. I slipped off my black flats and began to undo the zipper on my uniform. I threw the bloody clothe down the laundry chute to be cleaned. With aching muscles, I took off all of my undergarments and walked across my room.
The room itself wasn't too bad. It had a bed containing grey sheets with matching pillow cases and a comforter. The walls were a bland cream and there was only a small table and drawers occupying the rest of the space.
The bathroom was even smaller, with a sink, toilet, and full shower. Everything in the room was a sterile white that had lost its shine one too many years back. All around the room, towels and makeup was littered.
I kicked a clear path in front of me and swung my legs over the side of the tub. I undid my hair, throwing the hair tie in the pile of randomness. After closing the shower curtain, my hands did what they did every other night-turn on the shower. Like any other day, I followed the same routine of washing my body, grabbing a towel and drying, changing into sleeping wear, finishing hygienic bedtime routines, then climbing into my worn down mattress for bed.
At this point, like any other night, I stared straight at the wall next to the door and did not take my eyes off of the blinking light from the control panel. As my eyelids began to close from exhaustion, I continued my nightly routine and thought. I thought about a life away from here, back in my home on Merylia. But those thoughts, like all other nights, went away and were replaced with my reality.
I was never going home.
