Chapter Two

I looked back at my house one last time. I remember all the memories I had made here. All the times I went sledding down the huge hill that led to the creek by my house. All the times we played kickball in the backyard as a family. The time I spent talking to friends I didn't have now.

I walked to my car trying not to cry. My mom and dad were going to meet me at the airport along with my two best friends, Spencer and Meghan. I popped the trunk of my used Honda CR-V, placing my suitcases inside and slamming it down. I walked back to the front seat and hopped in. Seconds later I started the car and pulled out of my driveway for the last time in a while. Before I knew it I was on the highway driving to the airport.

On the way there I turned on some music. I had one of those cars you can hook your iPhone up to, so I shuffled through all my favorite songs. On came one of my favorite songs, Burn by Ellie Goulding! I turned the radio up and rolled down the windows. I sang my pitchy little heart out the whole song and smiled when it was over.

Just when I pulled into the airport parking lot Little Things by One Direction came on. I sat in the car and waited for my favorite part.

You'll never love yourself half as much as I love you.

You'll never treat yourself right darlin but I want you to.

If I let you kno-oo-oow I'm here for you

Maybe you'll love yourself like I, love you

Oohhhh

As I listened to Niall's solo I started to tear up a bit. Normally I wouldn't but before whenever I listened to this, Luke and I had been dating.

•••

A couple months ago I had my birthday and turned eighteen. Luke had taken me out to a fancy dinner and then we were going out to the lake just to talk like we normally did. We got out of the car when we got to the lake and went and sat on the dock. I took of my shoes and put my feet in the cool water.

Luke looked over at me and didn't say a word. "What?" I asked him. "Is there something on my face?"

He just looked at me and smiled. I repeat my previous question but he just continued to look at me. I stopped asking questions and looked at him too. He was so handsome. He had deep brown eyes that made my heart melt every time I looked into them. His hair was dirty blonde-ish and he always had it styled into the perfect quiff. His smile could always light up the room and his laugh was absolutely contagious.

"Wait right here. I'll be right back I promise," Luke told me as he looked into my eyes. He got up and ran toward the car leaving wet foot prints on the dock as he went. I looked out to the lake and thought about how amazing this moment was and how I never wanted it to end. The water sparkled under the lights at the dock. I looked up and could see all the stars above me. It was beautiful.

Just then Luke came back. He had a guitar in his hands and a nervous look on his face. "What is this, Luke?" I asked him. He had never really played his guitar in front of me unless I begged him to.

"Well, I know you have always wanted to hear me play... Sooooo I learned a song for you and I have been practicing for the past month and half so it will be perfect and I really really really hope you like," Luke said all in one breath. Before I had time to respond he say down this time fully facing me and began to play. I recognized the song very quickly... It was Little Things. He knew how much I loved this song and how it always made me feel beautiful.

"Your hand fits in mine like it was made just for me...

But bear this mind it was meant to be. And joining up the dots with freckles on your cheeks and it all makes sense to me..." He began singing.
