Chapter 4

*September*

As soon as I woke up the next day, I pulled myself out of bed and walked out of my bedroom. Tony was still sleeping at the table and even though it was around nine in the morning, I still let him sleep. I didn't know how he could still sleep at the table. I thought he would have at least woken up by now sleeping in a not so comfortable position for hours.

I quietly began making myself breakfast, which was simply a bowl of cereal. Tony soon woke up, sitting up from the table and rubbing his eyes. "What time is it?" he asked. "And why are you having cereal so late?"

"You do realize it's nine in the morning, right?" I asked.

Tony sighed. "Sorry, I didn't mean to crash here. I guess I was just really tired."

"Doesn't matter," I said. "You would have had to come back here today to finish your work. Want some coffee?"

       "Sure," he said. "Thanks."

I started up the coffee maker before I sat down across him and started eating my breakfast. Tony, though he just woke up, went back to work on his laptop. When I finished my cereal, I got up and put it in the sink right as the coffee was finished.

I poured the coffee into two mugs. "You can come add stuff into your coffee," I said. "Cream or....sugar."

"Okay," he said, getting up from the chair. I grabbed the cream and sugar and placed it beside the mugs for us to add however much we wanted.

"So," he said. "What made you want to be a teacher?"

"I don't know, really," I said. "I just....sometimes, when I had a really horrible teacher in high school, I just thought of what I would do if I was a teacher. Then in my senior year of high school, my parents were pressuring me into choosing a job because I wasn't sure, so I just picked a teacher. What about you?"

Tony shrugged. "I don't know. My parents didn't really care what I wanted to do, which was odd because my mom really wanted my sister to be a doctor and I'm the older child. I just wanted to be a teacher. Why'd you pick chemistry?"

"I guess I've always liked it," I said. "I like how two things can either attract or not."

There was a sudden knock on my door and I sighed, having a very familiar feeling that it was one of my family members. I walked over but instead of opening the door this time, I looked through the peephole before walking back to the kitchen. Sorry, Mom, but I wasn't going to listen to you call me selfish and tell me to get over it.

       "Who's that?" Tony asked.

"Nobody important," I said before going to the living room and sitting on the couch and turning on the TV, but at a quite volume so my mom wouldn't hear and think I was home.

"I'm actually going to head to my apartment for a bit to shower and get changed," he said, getting up from the chair.

"Wait," I said quickly, but he already opened the door, giving my mom a friendly smile before leaving.

Great, now I had to talk to my mom. Reason number one hundred about why I hated Tony.

Actually, that was probably only the first reason. Stupid Tony and his attractiveness.

I got up from the couch and walked to the front door. "What?" I asked Mom.

Mom just gave me a smile, which made me furrow my eyebrows. "I'm glad to see you got over it," she said.

"Why would you think I got over it?" I asked.

       "That man...."

"That man is my co-worker," I said. "His WiFi is down so I'm letting him use mine for the weekend. I can't stand him and I'm not over what happened. So why are you here?"

"To get you to stop being so selfish," Mom said. "I did not raise you to be like this."

"That's nice," I said. "Goodbye." I closed the door and locked it before she could do anything. She knocked on the door, but I walked back to the couch and turned the TV up so she would get the message that I wasn't going to talk to her.

Minutes passed and there wasn't anymore knocking, so I hoped she walked away and wasn't creepily standing by my door, waiting for me to leave.

There was another knock at the door a bit later, so I got up and opened the door, knowing it was Tony. Well, hoping. If it was another one of my family members, I was going to find a new place to live.

It was Tony, thankfully, and can i just say that he looked fine.

I mentally slapped myself for thinking that as he walked back into my apartment, thanking me as well. Great, so as well as good-looking, he was also polite. I needed to find a better reason to hate him before I fell for him.

I sat across from him with my cup of coffee. "So, Tony," I said. "Your sister. How do you treat her?"

       Tony furrowed his eyebrows. "Why?"

"I'm just making small talk," I said.

"Well, we text each other at least once per day," Tony said. Damn, so he was sweet to his sister as well.

"Have you ever got into a fight?" I asked.

       "Not really, no," he said.

Come on, there had to be a reason to hate him.

"Do you like pineapples on pizza?" I asked.

      "Ew, no," he said.

I silently sighed. He just had to be perfect....

"What's up with the questions?" he asked me. "Normally, you refuse to talk when I ask you a question, or you glare at me."

"We are co-workers and technically neighbor after all," I said. "I just....thought I'd get to know you more. Any dark secrets?"

"No, I'm a mostly an open person," he said.

"Do you put ketchup on eggs?" I asked.

"Wait, people actually don't put ketchup on eggs?" he asked. Seriously. Why couldn't I find something that would make me hate him?

I didn't say anything else. I got up from my spot and sat back down on the couch in the living room. I really needed to find something, anything, that would make me hate him.
