It had been a year since I had left the confines of the hospital. When I came here months ago I had hated this place with every part of myself. There wasn't even a tiny piece of me that didn't resent that I had been caught, and that my plan hadn't worked. Now, a year later I was just as surprised as anyone at how grateful I was to the staff here for what they had done for me; they had saved me - literally.
I spotted a tuft of ginger hair over the wall. He was finally here. The hospital which I had been admitted to allowed no visitors, and only limited phone calls. This had meant that I hadn't seen my best friend in the world for the 366 days that I had been stuck here. As the gate swung open I found myself running and throwing myself at the man opening it.
'I've missed you kiddo.' His voice was exactly how I remembered it. I pulled back to meet his eyes as he smiled down at me. I grinned back before throwing myself back into his arms. It had been too long.
'I missed you too. Now can we please get out of here?'
He simply took my hand and led me down the street to his car.
'Any plans for the rest of the day kid?'
I raised an eyebrow at him. He was trying to be funny, and it was working.
'Good, because I figured we could go have lunch with some of my friends.'
'Ed, don't you think it's a bit soon for me to be socialising?'
'No time like the present Amber.'
And with that we were off, heading towards the centre of London. It was one of Ed's favourite places because he could walk the streets without too many people bothering him. When I had first gone into hospital Ed had been on the verge of becoming a household name. Now, if his phone calls were anything to go by, he had accomplished that.
We arrived at the restaurant about fifteen minutes after we had left the hospital. It was weird to see so many people in one place after being confined for so long. I couldn't decide if I felt free or terrified. To say it was slightly overwhelming would be an understatement.
Ed mumbled his name to the waitress and she gave him a knowing smile.
'Sure, Mr Sheeran your friends are just this way.'
She motioned for us to follow her and we obliged, being led to a secluded, private section of the restaurant which held just one table which was currently occupied by two boys who looked slightly younger than Ed, possibly closer to my age.
'Hey guys,' Ed lifted his hand by way of greeting as he walked over to them 'long time no see.'
They stood and gave him a one armed hug each, very macho.
Then Ed turned to face me and smiled 'this is my friend...'
But he was cut off by the tall, curly haired one.
'You must be Amber.'
