A pair of fraternal twins ran around the yard, playing tag. They were no more than three years old.
The boy had dark brown hair and wide, startling green eyes. The girl had blonde locks and eyes that matched the blue sky above. They got them from their parents.
Their parents sat together on the porch swing. "It's a wonder how innocent they look from the backgrounds we come from," the mother said, smiling warmly as she watched her children play.
"They definitely got that from you," said the father chuckling. "To this day, you still think that there's good in everyone."
"And there is," said the mother defensively as she turned to look at her husband.
"After all the shit we've been through, it always marvels me how you could still believe that."
She put her hands on her hips. Her green eyes sparkled jokingly as she pretended to get offended. "Hey, watch it Krad. If I remember correctly, you were one of those people I chose to believe in."
"And I think that may have just been the best decision you've ever made, if I do say myself," he said smirking.
She grinned, raising one of her eyebrows. "You think so?"
Krad flashed her a lop-sided grin. "Yeah, I mean I don't know about you Faye, but that decision alone made me the happiest man alive."
"When did you become so cheesy Krad?" At that, they both burst out laughing.
"Hey, it may be cheesy, but it's all true."
Faye grinned. "I know. I feel the same. I love you."
"I love you too."
They sat there for a minute, just gazing into each other's eye. For a split second though, Faye's sparkling green ones dimmed ever so slightly. But Krad noticed. "Are you worrying about the twins finding their Gifts?"
Faye shivered. After all these years, it still surprised her how easily Krad could to read her. "Yeah. I mean, how would they react?"
Krad pulled Faye closer, and she rested her head on his shoulder. "They are our kids, Faye. They're strong enough for anything. Besides, I'm actually excited about explaining it to them."
Faye slightly tilted her head, so she can see his face. "Why?" she asked, confused.
"Because," Krad said grinning down at her. "We'll finally be able to tell them our story."
