Hi, my name is Jay (the author not the character). It's been a long few years and I don't really know why I'm doing any of this. I would like to start out by saying that this is the beginning of a brand new book that, as I'm writing this, does not have a title. I'm hoping that one day maybe this will be published without this weird rant but I don't see that becoming a possibility because I feel I'm too lazy to actually edit this out, even when people decide to proof read this. So, without further ado, let us venture into chapter one.

It wasn't a dark and stormy night, nor was it a bright sunshiney day. It was just kind of average because those days can happen in fiction too. People were going about their business because that's what normal days are like. Everyone has their own life in their house and it's all these weird events that make life possible. So, an average day with average people doing average things. That's a real hook into a story. The thing is, there will be no surprising earthquake or hidden murder just the story of a group of teenagers trying to figure everything out. Kind of like what I'm doing with my life right now. To introduce the first character lets say they live in a nice brick house about 5 blocks away from the high school they attend. This person's name is Jay and they don't really identify with the standard gender system that exists in the years surrounding 2016. That is why the pronouns Jay uses are they/them because gender is a spectrum, people. So Jay was hanging out in their room that's wallpapered with various sketches by themselve and their friends. The TV was playing a random playlist of alternative music and Jay was texting their various friends, both internet and local.

Jay: hey man

SYD DA MAJESTIC ONE: wats up mofo?

Jay: not much just listening to music

SYD DA MAJESTIC ONE: did u want 2 meet up at da library? hang out in town?

Jay: why not... nothing better than walking around trying to find a business that is actually open in this godforsaken place

SYD DA MAJESTIC ONE: thats da spirit!

Jay: see you in like half an hour

Jay threw their phone in their back pocket and tried to make themselves look presentable in case they had to go inside some place where they would be judged. Clad in a 'never let this go' t-shirt, skinny jeans, and worn out combat boots; they left for the twenty-minute walk to the library. Syd, on the other hand, was already at the library dressed in her favourite YouTuber's merchandise and her very 'hipster-geek-chic' glasses. Who knew being a geek would ever be not only socially acceptable but a fashion statement? Anyways, as Syd waited, all the people she had invited to the library had shown up. Syd was the popular type of girl with all the tricks up her sleeve and every group from school at her fingertips. Literally, she had one person from every group's phone number so she could text them when needed. First, the jock group showed up. They had come from their morning workout. The group consisted of John, Maverick, and Myranda. Next, the band geek. The band geek is a strange breed of high schooler and pretty much no one outside of them knew what really went on in the band room. Syd only had one person's number from that group and that was senior drum major Kaysee. Kaysee was basically the ringleader and he always had something off about him, he also may have a thing for Syd but he doesn't talk much outside of band. Like I said everyone has their own individual life and I don't have the time to stalk each of them to know what to write about them. Slowly several groups and individuals from groups filtered in; the cheerleaders, the stoners, the gamers, the choir nerds, the mathletes, the theatre junkies, the debate team, you get the picture. By the time Jay arrived there were at least 30 people gathered around the library.

"What's that faggot doing here," yelled one of the jocks, "just because you 'identify' as a tree doesn't mean you can stand near us"

"Thanks, now suck my fucking dick you piece of shit," Jay said loud enough for everyone to hear. To which John snapped back with, "You wish you had one you tranny fucker! Why don't you just drink bleach, because in your world washing machine is a fucking gender"

"Well, why don't I just take yours, not that it's even comparable to one I could buy online. I don't think they sell them in your size. Then again I haven't searched for 'micro dicks'."

Syd had to break that one up before telling them why they were all there, "Okay everyone, our last day as high schoolers is this year and as you can see from that last argument is that we definitely don't get along. So from this point on we will all meet weekly to try to sort out ourselves and our relationships with each other!". She hopped down from the library steps and stood in the middle of the group of people.

"My goal is for each of you to talk to someone outside your clique. and learn something new about who they are and what they like. Maybe even something new about yourselves! Maybe someone will even find love!". Syd was overly excited for this, but to be honest, most of the people there who were attracted to girls thought this was totally cute. Due to this fact, almost everyone seemed okay with the fact that they were going to try to hang with other people.

"I will now give you all slips of paper with which group you have to hang out with for this month and then we will meet again next month to change groups and PARTAYY! Have fun exploring our high school class, but not too much fun!" Sydnee winked before she started passing out papers to everyone. Jay was unbelievably nervous owing to the fact that they and their gender was not at all accepted by anyone within a 50-mile radius, and that was being kind. Sydnee got to them and gave them a sympathetic smile. Jay looked down relieved that they only had to tolerate band kids and nearly walked away to smoke a quick cigarette before they were stopped by a light tap on their shoulder.
