Second Chances

The moment the words left Sasuke's mouth ,he almost regretted it immediately,taken aback by his own words . What in hell was he saying?

Naruto on the other hand stared at him. Dumbfounded by his words. It couldn't be. THE Sasuke Uchiha couldn't  have said what he just did. Besides for crying out loud ,who knew Sasuke played for the other team.

"No you don't." Naruto whispered. He wouldn't let Sasuke play him like that. "You're crazy Sasuke. You don't love me. You're lying. "He mumbled ,though hopeful Sasuke would rebuke his statement.

Sasuke smirked.

"You're right Naruto. I'm crazy. I don't love you. " Sasuke spat ,a look of disgust crossing his face. Regret.

Sasuke couldn't understand why he was acting all high and mighty in front of Naruto. Wasn't he trying to fix things ? He had just messed up more.

Even though he wasn't hoping for much ,Naruto's heart dropped when Sasuke agreed with him instead of rebuking his statement.

"I knew it.." He whispered ,voice clearly shaking as he shook his head and looked away. His eyes felt hot from the tears that threatened to pool and spill over. Naruto silently screamed at himself in his mind. How stupid could he be to even have the slightest bit of hope that Sasuke could ever love him.

Naruto snorted. Who ever truly loved him anyways. The only ones who truly cared and loved him were dead. His parents , The Third , Jiraiya. What made him so hopeful anyways ?

The pair then fell back into the uncomfortable silence once again. Only this time more uncomfortable and leaving Sasuke more bewildered with his actions.

'Apologise , god damn it' Sasuke berated himself internally ,hands fisting the fabric of his pants.

Sasuke opened his mouth trying to get the word out of his mouth yet nothing came out. It just refused to come out.

'C'mon how hard can it be?'He thought to himself ,frustrated with how his pride was preventing him from doing so.

"Look Naru-" he started after beating himself up mentally to force himself to apologise but only to be cut off by the blonde.

"Save it Sasuke! I've had enough of your god damned attitude ! I've had enough of you making my life so miserable! Why won't you leave me alone Sasuke? I've long given up on you. I've given up!" Naruto spat ,tears finally slipping out from the corners of his eyes as they ran down his tanned cheeks. His fists were balled up so tight his knuckles turned white.

Naruto didn't know what came over him to have lashed out that way. He just knew that his heart was heavy and he was drained. He didn't regret the harsh words he spat at the now shocked raven ,however he did feel a twinge of guilt.

Sasuke's obsidian eyes widened ,his mouth hanging slightly in disbelief at the words thrown harshly at him. He didn't mean it ,right? Naruto wouldn't have given up in him like his dream had predicted ,right?

"Take that back Naruto. You don't mean it." Sasuke demanded shakily ,his eyes shifting to focus on the enraged blonde.

"No. I mean it. " Naruto spelled out calmly ,cerulean eyes locking with obsidian ones defiantly.

Sasuke's heart dropped into his stomach. It couldn't be true. Yes,Naruto was lying. Naruto was just saying it in a fit of anger. He didn't mean it.

The truth of the matter was that Sasuke was lying to himself. He always had been for the last few years of his life. Lying to himself that it wasn't his fault that his brother died. It was his illness that would kill him eventually ,right? He was doing Itachi a favour by cutting his misery short.

He had been lying to himself that it wasn't his fault that he left the Hidden Leaf. It was the Third Hokage's fault to begin with ,right? If he hadn't had asked Itachi to slaughter his whole clan ,he wouldn't have wound up turning to Orochimaru in search for more power.

And even now Sasuke was lying to himself that Naruto was lying ,that Naruto was out of his mind.

"Take it back Naruto! Take your words back! You're just saying it to anger me ! To convince me to let you go! Take it back!" Sasuke yelled ,louder than he ever had ,his eyes flashing crazily.

"No.." Naruto whispered ,shifting further from the raven ,afraid of the look in his eyes. Sasuke looked almost insane ,he looked crazy.

"TAKE YOUR FUCKING WORDS BACK!"Sasuke roared and before the slightly terrified boy could react ,Sasuke cut across the distance between them in the blink of an eye and had him pinned down under his weight,a kunai pressed firmly against his neck.

Naruto could feel his pulse beating in his ears, blocking out all other sound except the breath that was raggedly moving in and out of his mouth at regular, gasping intervals. His eyes wide in fear as ones as dark as night gazed down upon him steadily.

Sasuke smiled coldly at the boy beneath him ,the edges of the kunai breaking the surface of tanned skin. Crimson red soon began to pool at the edges of where the skin was in contact with the sharp object.

"How about now? Are you going to take your words back...Naruto?" Sasuke mused at his victim ,almost as if he was teasing him.

As terrified the blonde seemed of his attacker's gaze ,he couldn't seem to be able to tear his gaze away from him. Sasuke was succumbing to his bouts of insanity ,this wasn't him. Naruto knew better.

"Sasuke..stop.." The boy managed to whimper as the weapon cut deeper into his skin ,drawing more blood as it started to trickle down his neck.

The two words seemed to do the trick as Sasuke suddenly snapped back into reality ,his face suddenly looking horrified.

Sasuke scrambled off Naruto ,his eyes flickering all around before his narrowed onto the fresh cut that stood out prominently on his neck then his kunai which was clutched tightly in his hands ,stained with fresh blood.

Sasuke screamed a strangled cry as the kunai clattered onto the ground. He scrambled away from the object as if it was the plague.

Although Naruto clearly felt disdain towards the raven ,he couldn't help but feel empathy and worry for him. Sasuke looked genuinely terrified and Naruto had never seen this side of him before.

"Sasuke you-"

"Go ,Naruto. Get away from me! Go!" Sasuke yelled at the blonde ,backing away as he spoke. "I'll undo the jutsu so just go Naruto ,get away from me!" Sasuke breathed shakily ,his hands mirroring his breaths as he formed hand seals to undo the jutsu he had set on Naruto.

Sasuke never intended to hurt Naruto and he did.
