       Maddie's POV

I place the nicely folded shirt into my bag as my phone buzzes. It was Chloe.

     are you almost ready?
                     It read.
yes, just finishing up packing
                   I reply.

We were going camping for two weeks, on an island on the lake. We had quite a few people coming too, including Chloe, Kalani, Josh, Paige, Zack, Brandon, Kendall, Nick, Mikey and I.
Yes, quite a lot of people. 10 people. Well, not too bad, right?

I heard a loud honk outside, and all I could think was, "oh, here I come lake."

I used to go up to the lake all the time when I was younger. I would camp just about every weekend of the summer with my parents. Making s'mores every night, sleeping in tents, swimming all day, sitting in the Summer heat, getting away from the every day routine that we do over and over again.
And now doing it with my friends for two weeks? I'm ecstatic!

I snap out of the thoughts keeping me from going downstairs, and run down every step of the staircase.
I double check and make sure I have all of my bags, and I'm out of the door.
As I step into the passenger seat, I hear the blasting sound of  "Too Good" by Drake pulsing through the gray jeep.

"Last night," Chloe sings.  "I think lost my patience." I sing, joining in.
"And I hope you can take it," we say.
"I HOPE YOU CAN TAKE IT!" We sing as loud as we can.
She backs out of my driveway, and onto the road to Kendall's house.
We jam out to all of her music, picking up Kalani, Kendall, and Paige on the way.

"I'm bigger than my body," Kalani sings. She knows every Halsey song, every lyric.
"I'm colder than this home," she's the biggest Halsey fan I know.
"I'm meaner than my demons," she says.
"I'm bigger than these bones."
All of us join in for the chorus. Why wouldn't we?

"And all the kids cried out please stop, you're scaring me! I can't help this awful energy," we sing.
"God damn right, you should be scared of me, who is in control?"

"I know damn right I'm not in control." Paige says, followed by a small chuckle.

Just a few hours past before we were almost there. We were going up to a slightly larger lake than the local one in our town.
We sang along to all of our favorite artists.

Halsey, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Melanie Martinez, tøp, and much much more.
We just had the most fun listening to those amazing people.

"We're here!" She yelled as we arrived at the boat landing.
"We just have to wait for the boys to get here."
Josh had the boat on a trailer behind his truck.
   We continued jamming, of course.

Soon enough, the boys got here with the boat. They got the boat into the water, did everything so we were just about good to go.

                                    But not yet.

We unloaded our bags into the boat and said goodbye to our cars. We wouldn't drive them for two weeks. It's not very sad to me. I grew up like this.

"Okay I'm just about ready," Kendall says.
"I'm gonna have some bomb ass Instagram pictures."

"You're bringing your phone?" I ask.
           "Umm, yes?" She answers.
     "No, you're not." I say.

"We're going to have a phone-free two weeks and we are going to like it." I say.
   "What?" Nick says.  "Yep."
"Leave the phones in the car. It'll die out in the woods. Even if you have a portable charger. Just please do this for me, do it for yourselves really, you know I used to do this all the time and I want you to have as good as an experience as I did." I say.

They glance at each other and put their phones back in the car.
"Thank you, I appreciate it." I say.
           "You're welcome." Mickey mutters.

We take off in the boat, driving to the island.
We get to the island and tie up the boat.

"Okay, let's get our bags and set up these tents." I said.
                  "Tents?" Kalani questions.

                                      "Yes, Kalani. Tents." I say.
"I thought we rented like houses or something?" She says.
"Well we're sleeping in tents." I say.

"So no comfortable sex?" Zack asks.
"No Zack. Preferably no sex at all." I say.
"That's not gonna happen." Josh comments.

"You wouldn't be able to get a girl on this trip in a sleeping bag with you anyways," Chloe says.
Kalani has a thing with Nick, Paige is dating Zack, I am not one to get in bed, I'm still a virgin- I know, I know, I'm 18 and I haven't had sex yet, other then all of my friends. You see, I'm the good one in the group. I drive everyone home when they're drunk, I haven't had sex yet, I've never done anything bad- and then there's Chloe. She just won't get in bed with anyone. She has to care for this person, which I think she does care for Josh. She's just not ready to show it.
               "Maybe Kendall," she says.

"Uhh, yeah no." Kendall says. We all look at her.
"I'm not a slut!" She says defending herself.

But we all know she is.
"No, no, just the most likely of the girls here to get in bed with Josh." Mickey says. But he doesn't mean it. We all know it. Kendall's a slut but we love her so much anyways.
"But I still wouldn't!" She says, crossing her arms.

"Okay, let's get our tents set up now please!" I say.

I grab the tent bags. They were particularly large tents. Five people could fit in it, so there was a tent for the girls and the boys.

We started to set up the tents, but nobody knew how to set one up but me, so I ended up doing the work. I set the boys tent up too.
"Okay, just put your bags in there and we will get our sleeping bags all set up a little later. But I'm hungry. Anyone else?" I say.
                They all nod in agreement.

                          "Let's collect firewood!"
"We have to do that?" Brandon asks.
"Yes. And the sooner and the more firewood we get the sooner we can eat." I say.
They bolted off, scurrying to find some wood.

They came back with armfuls of wood. I started the fire and made pizza. It was our dinner.
I put them in bowls because that's all we had, and served them to everyone.

We finished and decided to make s'mores.
Brandon got the food and we all picked a stick and burnt it.

I put a marshmallow on my stick and roasted it to be golden brown. Everyone wondered how I had done my marshmallow so nicely, and all I said was
    "Years of practice."
We set up our sleeping bags, unpacked a little bit, got our pajamas on and brushed our teeth before snuggling into the warmth of our sleeping bags.

The day was just about how I planned it would be, and I smiled all day.

Yay! First chapter. I haven't written on here in forever. But I'm pretty excited for this fanfic, a few covers are being made rn. I hope this turns out to be a good fanfic.
