Chapter 1

Edited

I pull my coat tighter as I brave the cold New York morning. Today is the day my dream comes true. Today is the day where all my hard work finally pays off. I couldn't hide my grin as I look up at the large building. Alexander Harvey Publishing Company. Squaring my shoulders I push aside my nerves and stride confidently into the building.

The warmth of the building is a stark contrast to the snow outside. Taking off my coat and gloves I proceed to the front desk where a petite blond sits typing on her computer. Clearing my throat I watch as her head snaps up and her mouth forms a bright smile. Her name tag reads Angie.

''Good morning. How can I help you?'' she chirps happily.

''I have an interview. I'm a little early though,'' I say as I take a quick glance at my watch. 9:50 only ten more minutes.

''Ah… Mr. Taylor. Please take a seat right over there. I'll send you in once Mr. Harvey has finished his meeting.'' she says directing me to a pair of black leather sofa chairs. Giving her a small smile I mutter my thanks and make my way over.

Sinking into the soft leather I place the folder that held all of the appropriate documents at my feet and start rubbing my temples. I suspected my headache was the result of last night. My friend, Chase, insisted taking me out for a celebratory beer which then turned into three and then a few vodka shots.

Before I could think any further about my headache I hear a feminine voice calling my name.

''Mr. Taylor? Mr. Harvey will see you now,'' Angie informs me.

Gathering up my folder and coat I straighten out the imaginary wrinkles in my suit and begin following Angie, my eyes focusing on her tight skirt that clings deliciously to the soft curves of her hips.

We come to a stop outside of a closed large wooden door that read, Stephen Harvey, CEO. I can feel the trickle of sweat forming on my brow as my nerves hit me full force.

Angie raises her hand and knocks loudly. A few seconds later I hear a faint ''Come in,''. She slowly opens the door and peeks her head in.

''Mr. Harvey, your 10 o'clock is here,'' She says politely.

I hear him sigh before he replies ''Send him in,''

Angie then turns to me with a grin ''Good luck.'' she tells me before making her way back to her desk. Gulping I push the heavy door open and step into the sparsely decorated office.

Stephen Harvey is the balding, middle aged son of Alexander Harvey and the CEO of Alexander Harvey Publishing Company after his father retired last year.

Alexander Harvey Publishing Company is the most successful and the hardest intern program to get accepted into. The fact that I even got accepted for an interview to get an internship is a major achievement in itself.

''Good morning Mr. Harvey. I'm Henry Taylor,'' I introduce myself as I approach his desk and extend my hand. He smiles up at me and gives my hand a firm shake.

''Call me Steve, Mr. Harvey is my father. Take a seat Henry,'' He says gesturing to two chairs that sit opposite his large oak desk.

I lower myself into the chair and hand Steve my folder. ''I brought all my credentials and my resume,'' I tell him.

He then begins to flip through the various pieces of paper before resting his gaze on me. ''It says here you graduated top of your class at Columbia,''

''Yes sir,'' I reply proudly feeling the edges of my mouth pull up into a smile.

''Impressive. Now tell me why you applied here?'' he asks as he leans back casually in his chair.
