The school day was finally over. Overall, Kageyama had a pretty boring time. Although Hinata was a very interesting character, Kageyama couldn't handle his jumpiness for more than thirty minutes at a time.
Hinata had offered to walk with Kageyama since his house wasn't too far from Kageyama's hotel, and although Kageyama had no intention of walking with the energetic boy, he was basically forced to accept. Hinata galloped along the sidewalk a few steps in front of Kageyama. He smiled so brightly Kageyama had to wonder what in the world there was to be so happy about.
They strolled for a good ten minutes in silence, neither saying a word. Kageyama just quietly stayed a few feet behind Hinata, watching him as he stared at the sky with a sparkle in his eyes.
"Hey, Kageyama, can we stop by the river for a minute?"
"What for?"
"Just because."
Kageyama sighed but continued to follow Hinata as they took a detour. They carefully walked down the grassy hill right next to the river. Hinata sat down right next to the riverbank, and motioned for Kageyama to sit next to him.
Kageyama sat down beside Hinata. The assassin glanced over, but Hinata was busy staring off into the sky again.
"Hey, Kageyama... Can I tell you something?"
"Well-"
"Last night... Well, my father... He... Died. He- he was killed."
Kageyama stared wide-eyed at the boy for a few seconds before he spoke.
"I'm- I'm sorry..."
Hinata sighed loudly.
"I- I don't feel bad... That's why I'm scared. I should be upset! My dad died!" Hinata yelled, burying his head in his hands.
"Hinata-"
Hinata looked up. His face was streaked with tears.
"Kageyama... He was a bad man. He hurt my mother. I mean... I didn't want him to die, but I'm not sad that he's gone."
"Hinata-"
"Kageyama... They found him dead this morning. They announced he was killed by some assassin or something. I- I want to find the person. The person who killed my father."
"Hinata... I'm sorry about your father..."
"I'm- I'm going to find the assassin who killed my father, Kageyama."
Kageyama was stunned. He couldn't think of anything to say.
Blowing his cover was completely out of the question, but Kageyama wasn't too good at working with people. He had nothing to say, so he just stared wide-eyed back at Hinata.
Hinata finally jumped up. "We should get home."
"Uh, yeah..."
Kageyama followed Hinata until the they reached his house.
"See you tomorrow!"
Kageyama nodded and said a quick goodbye. He didn't have any intention to go back, but maybe he would.
Kageyama strolled home, nothing on his mind but Hinata Shouyou.
"He wants to find me?" Kageyama muttered to himself.
...
It was the next morning. Kageyama was entering the classroom again.
"Hey, Kageyama!" Hinata shouted across the room.
Kageyama sighed, but he walked over to Hinata's desk.
"Guess what?"
"What?" Kageyama asked.
"I asked Ms. Baker to give you the same schedule as me and she said yes!"
"Really? But-"
"Now we have the same classes!"
"Yeah, but I don't think I'll be staying here long," Kageyama said.
"What? Why not?"
"I travel a lot."
"Alone?" Hinata asked, concerned.
"Yeah."
"But, Kageyama, that's so lonely! Stay here!"
"I can't-"
"I know you'll stay here! Right?"
"Well-"
Kageyama was cut off by the bell.
"Let's get to math," Hinata said, skipping through the doorway.
Kageyama followed. But as he walked, all he could think about was the odd feeling in his chest.
What was with him recently?
Why did he not want to leave?
Kageyama didn't understand any of these new feelings. And he definitely didn't know what to do about them.
...
School was over. Kageyama had been going to this school for four days now.
Hinata again skipped a few feet in front of Kageyama as the pair walked home.
"Hey, Kageyama. Why're you living in a hotel?"
"I told you that I travel."
"But you said you'd stay."
"When did I say that?"
"This morning," Hinata said.
"I never said-"
"You should come stay with me at my house with my mom and my sister! Instead of paying for a fancy hotel."
"I'm good-"
"I'll call my mom and ask!"
"There's no need-"
Hinata had already taken out his phone. "Hey, mom! I made a friend at school and he's new. He's living in a hotel right now and I was wondering if we could let him have the guest room," Hinata said into the phone.
Kageyama couldn't hear what Hinata's mother said next, but by the way Hinata's face lit up, Kageyama assumed she'd said yes.
"Okay, I'll bring him over after he gets his stuff," Hinata said right before he hung up. "Kageyama, she's letting you stay! Isn't that great? She said to go by the hotel and get your stuff."
"Hinata, please don't worry about it. I'm fine in that hotel."
"No! Now let's go get your stuff."
Kageyama sighed in defeat. From what Kageyama has observed over the past two days, Hinata isn't one to give in easily. Or at all, really.
They strolled on the sidewalk side by side. Kageyama observed the people and the places. There were quite a few small outdoor malls they passed with people crowding the shops.
When they finally arrived at the hotel, they immediately took the elevator.
Once they were in Kageyama's room, Kageyama started packing his things into his suitcase. Once he was finished, Kageyama took his suitcase and put it by the door. When he turned around, he saw Hinata with his guitar case.
The guitar case with his rifle stashed inside.
"Kageyama, you have a guitar?" Hinata asked.
"Wait!" Kageyama shouted, but it was too late.
Hinata had opened the guitar case.
