That Night

"Okay ladies, I'm off." Izzy grabbed her purse. "What, where are you going?" Riley looked at her friend confused. "Well my little Riles it wouldn't be much fun if I just told you everything," she smirked and winked at her friend before leaving. Riley and Maya looked at each other. "Let's call Farkle and Lucas," Maya suggested. "You're mom won't mind?" Riley asked. "No, my mom won't care." Maya picked up her phone. "They are on their way." Maya threw her phone onto the bed. "Maya where do you think Izzy went?" Riley asked Maya bouncing on the bed a little. "Riley it's Izzy, probably some college party with one of her faceless, nameless college boyfriends." Maya said sarcastically but seriously. "Knock knock knock." Maya and Riley looked up to see Farkle and Lucas standing in Mayas doorway.

"So truth or dare anyone?" Lucas looked around at his friends. They were all sitting around Maya's room. "Sure but I'm gonna go make popcorn." Maya stood up and left. "Hey Riley where's Izzy?" Farkle asked Riley. "She left earlier to go who knows where." Riley told them. "She didn't tell you guys where she was going?" Lucas asked her. "No, guys seriously it's Izzy, secrets secrets secrets." Riley laughed to herself. Maya walked into the room with a couple bowls of popcorn. "What'd I miss?" Maya said. "We were just talking about Izzy." Lucas told her.

"Wait do you guys here that?" They all listened closely and heard a faint siren that was getting louder. "Oh it's just a siren I thought it was this something else." Lucas said. They all heard another one and Maya got up and looked out the window. "Oh my god," Maya breathed out. She watched a coroner van drive down her street. "Guys I just saw a coroners van." She looked at them frightened. Maya and Riley lived on the same street and at the corner was their high school. Maya stuck her head out the window and saw the scene. "What do you see Maya?" Riley asked. "It's the school, there's like seven police cars, an ambulance, a coroners van, and a lot of police tape." Maya turned around. All of them had blank faces, they didn't know what to think. "Let's go," Maya grabbed her jacket and put it on. The others didn't argue they all left Maya's house. They ran down the street and stood with the whole group of people that had gathered to see what was happening. Maya listened closing to a women that was standing next to her. "A girl... yeah... in the hallway... I don't know who." Maya's heart stopped. No Maya don't go there. "Look!" Riley nudged Maya as the coroner's pulled the body bag on the stretcher. Maya noticed a women talking to an officer on the other side of the police tape. The women looked mortified and shook. Maya was almost positive it was the women that lives on the end of her street right across from the school. The coroner van pulled away from the scene along with a few of the police cars. The chief detective walked over to the reporters and started to speak. "We have not identified the victim but we have ruled this a homicide. Once we do identify the victim we will alert the family and then the media. Then once we have a suspect we will have all our recourses trying to find our killer. Thank you." He walks away while the reporters are still asking him questions. Some of the other officers start to motioning for people to leave. "I'm calling Izzy," Riley said as they started to walk up the street. "No answer." Riley was starting to look worried. "Hey, Riley it's gonna be okay," Farkle put his arms around her and rubbed her shoulders. "Let's go home guys, Farkle, Riley come on." Maya said grabbing Lucas's arm. "Guys come on." She said again.

"Still nothing from Izzy?" Farkle looked around. Everyone was still sitting around Maya's room. They were all extremely worried. "MAYA!!!" They all heard Maya's mother yell from downstairs. Maya ran downstairs and hugged her mom. "Hey baby girl I got a call saying everyone in our area should get home and lock their doors." she told her. "We have identified the victim..." Maya suddenly turned around to the tv and paused it. "RILEY, LUCAS, FARKLE!!" She yelled. Suddenly she heard them all running fast down the stairs. "What???!!" Lucas looked at Maya. "They're about to announce the victim. They all sat down on the couch in front of the tv. They all looked at each other worryingly. Maya hits play. "... as Isadora Smakle. Her family has asked for privacy while they mourn their loved one. We have many suspects and we are working to find them all but for now this is all we can tell you." Maya hit the power button. Riley started bawling immediately and Maya short after. Farkle and Lucas started tearing as well. "Oh my god, oh my god," Maya whispered.

"Lucas do you need another blanket?" Maya asked him. They all decided they should try and sleep. Riley and Maya were gonna sleep in Maya's bed, Farkle on an air mattress and Lucas in a sleeping bag with a lot of blankets. "Goodnight, guys," Riley whispered a second after Maya turned off the lights.
