Even though we wanted to celebrate, there was to much to do. Star Killer base was indeed destroyed, but the havoc it wrought on the galaxy was massive. In the one day it had been active, the entire solar system the Republic capital was located in was destroyed. The First Order had mostly succeeded in their mission. After they retreated back into the unknown regions of space, we were left to clean up their mess. The Republic was in shambles, with no capital, fleet, or even government to regulate the galaxy. With most of the senate dead along with chancellor, and with no banner to live under, the job was left to us to fill the role. The Resistance would have to take control in order to kick-start the remnants of The Republic.

All while we dealt with domestic affairs, our attention was not on  The First Order. This would be one of our biggest mistakes. The First Order was wounded but not dead, and they had far more resources and troops than we had ever imagined. Apparently they had a huge army massing in the unknown regions of space where we could never find them.

We started to realize this about two months after the battle of Star Killer base. I was on Coruscant seeing as it was the top candidate for the new Republic capital. I, only a private at the time by the nickname Long-shot. had been busy patrolling level 5072 of the Mega-city when the Threat The First Order posed became very clear to us all. I was patrolling one of the main hubs that allowed for transport between the levels.

I was about to change board a transport to the surface to meet up with my platoon sergeant, when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. When I turned to look at it I stepped away from the boarding line to get a better view. It was a black and red Tie fighter, expertly darting around the busy traffic of the hub. All I could think was "No... it can't be, not here, not now." But before I could think what to do and who to call, it happened.

The Tie fighter straightened out it's flight path and was starting speeding towards my position, but before I could react it fired two missiles. All I could do was hit the alarm button on my com-link before the missiles slammed into the transport I was planning to board. The blast threw me back like I was a piece of trash. I slammed right into a support pillar and blacked out. I came to, to the sounds of explosions and screaming. I looked around, all I could see was people of all species, desperately trying to flee further into the planet via the elevators and stairs.

The transport hub had turned into a raging inferno, of fire, smoke, debris, and bodies. I could see Tie fighters and First Order troop transports pouring in through the huge tunnel that was connected to the surface. There were hundreds of ships. This was not just one loose end firing on a transport hub, this was a full scale invasion. The First Order was back, and they were pissed. I had to make it back to the surface, it was the only way to link up with my platoon.

The lower levels of the planet were turning into a literal hell. Tie fighters fired missiles into heavily populated areas, while the troop transports unloaded wave after wave of Stormtroopers. They cut down anyone in there way, no one tried to fight back and I understood why. The First Order was cruel and unforgiving, and resistance would have been futile. I began running to the nearest stair case, that was unfortunately a kilometer away. On my way there I got a good look of what was going on.

The Stormtroopers were massacring everyone in their path, and all could hear was laser fire and screams from about half a kilometer from my position. While I ran, my mind raced, If the lower levels were in this much disarray, what condition was the surface in? I was surrounded by bodies, mangled and bloody from were they had been executed while fleeing for their lives. I could tell that The First Order had been through this way and I needed to be careful. All I had for weapons was a single thermal detonator, and my standard issue rifle. as I neared the stair case my was almost killed by a stray laser bolt.

I soon realized that this particular shot was not headed for me, but for a Stormtrooper. I immediately took cover, and looked to where the shot had come from. I saw a squad of Stormtroopers around a group of deceased thugs, checking for survivors. It seemed that the thugs had been trying to fight back but had been quickly gunned down like everyone else. To my dismay, the Stormtroopers began to set up around the entrance to the stairs. I would have to get past them to get to the surface. After fumbling around with my belt for a minute, desperately trying to be quiet. I unhooked my thermal detonator, pressed the activation button, and quickly jumped up out of cover and threw the detonator.

I was quickly noticed after I threw the grenade, and the enemy proceeded to open fire on my position. I didn't stand a chance against a full squad, but what if I picked them off one by one? I had about 10 more seconds before the bomb exploded, but the Stormtroopers were moving towards me and away from the detonator. I quickly leaned out of the cover I had been using (which was only made up of a couple of storage containers), and began to open fire on the enemy. I took down two of the bucket heads, which seemed to convince the others to back up right on top of my grenade.

The explosion was one of the loudest I have ever heard. The bomb exploded, then collapsed back in on itself like a supernova, obliterating everything within a ten foot radius... Including the first flight of stairs... Now my only chance to get to the surface was to take a ship. Right into the armada of murderous First Order ships... I should have thought before I tossed that detonator.
