"Cato?" Arielle asked for the third time, waving her hands in front of the daydreaming Cato. He snapped back into reality at the mention of his name.

"What?" he asked, pushing his glasses back into place and looking at Arielle.

"You've been staring out the window since we got here."

Cato tapped his fingers nervously on the wooden table. "Sorry, I just--"

"Let me guess," Arielle interrupted, "You're waiting for Zachary to get here, aren't you?"

"Maybe," Cato admitted.

Arielle chuckled, "somebody's got a crush."

Cato blushed, "Why would you say that?" he looked down at his textbook and pretended to study.

"Because," Arielle started, "every time we get here before his shift, you wait for him. When he's here, your eyes light up like there's a Doctor Who marathon on TV. Plus, there are better coffee shops around, but we only go to this one."

Cato opened his mouth to defend himself, then closed it again after failing to come up with a convincing argument. She wasn't wrong. He did have a crush on Zachary, the cute barista. He just didn't know it yet. A few minutes later, the door opened, causing a bell to ring. Cato glanced at the door and saw a tall boy with dark brown hair and forest green eyes.

"Hey Zach," Cato beamed a little too enthusiastically.

Zachary turned and looked into Cato's sepia eyes, "Hey Cato," he grinned, staring at him admiringly, "I'll be with you guys in a few minutes." He looked away from Cato and hurredly walked through to the door to the "Employees Only" room. Arielle smirked.

"What?" Cato asked cluelessly.

"Nothing," Arielle replied, "you guys are cute."

Cato rolled his eyes. I don't have a crush on Zach, he thought, That's ridiculous. I mean, yeah I do get excited when he's around and when he isn't around I always think about him and whenever I look into his eyes, my heart starts beating faster and I get butterflies whenever he laughs or smiles. But that doesn't mean anything, right?

Zach walked up to Arielle and Cato with three drinks. "Espresso for the mermaid, hot chocolate for the cute boy," Zach winked at Cato, causing him to blush. "And cappuccino for me." Zach sat down next to Cato and smiled. They stared at each other for what seemed like hours. Arielle tried to ignore it by starting a conversation. Cato wasnt paying attention to the conversation. He was paying attention to how Zach's lips moved when he talked and how much he wanted to kiss him.

"What do you mean I'm slytherin? I'm obviously gryffindor," Arielle exclaimed.

Zach laughed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes. I mean look at my hair," Arielle referred to her curly, light brown hair, "I'm basically Hermione Granger."

"Alright, alright. You're gryffindor. I'm slytherin," Zach bit his lip and looked at Cato, "what about you, Cato?"

The bell on the door rang, causing Cato to flinch and Arielle to chuckle. Zach hesitantly got up and took the new customer's order.

Arielle started to gather her things, "hey Zach," she shouted across the room, "we've got class tomorrow so I'm gonna head home." She turned to look at Cato, "you coming roomie? Or are you gonna stay here with your boyfriend?" she asked jokingly. Zach obviously didn't hear.

"No, I'll go too," Cato blushed. They said their goodbyes and left the coffee shop.

Zach wasn't working the next day, so Cato didn't go to the coffee shop. He went straight to his and Arielle's apartment after class. Later that night, Cato's phone went off.

[Text message from: Zach]

He smiled and opened the message.

[Zach]: can you come to the coffee shop? i need to tell you something

[Cato]: its 10 pm. isnt that a bit late to get coffee? i thought it closed at 9

[Zach]: i have keys and i wanted to do this privately. its important

[Cato]: alright, ill be there in 10 minutes

Cato got dressed and walked into the coffee shop. He scanned the place and found Zach nervously tapping his fingers on the table.

"Hey, Zach," Cato smiled. Zach looked up at Cato and grinned. Cato sat closely next to him.

"I need to tell you something, but first I need you to answer a question," Zach started

"Alright," Cato nervously agreed

"Do you and Arielle..." Zach paused, "have a... thing?"

"What? No. I don't... I don't swing that way," Cato looked into Zach's eyes for a moment and looked away with an embarrassed expression.

Zach suppressed a relieved smile and continued, "I, uh," he tried to find the right words, "I like you, Cato."

Cato froze and looked into Zach's eyes, "you mean..."

"Yeah," Zach admitted, "I have a crush on you. I've had a crush on you for a long time," it was silent for a few seconds, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have--"

"I like you too," Cato smiled. He and Zach stared at each other for a long time before they finally closed the space between them.

(A/N: So that was fluffy af. I don't know how to write smut so I probably won't be doing that any time soon. The song that inspired me to make this is called Falling in Love in a Coffee Shop by Landon Pigg, but I personally like the Daniela Andrade verison better than the original. If you don't know what I mean by classes, I meant college classes. I didn't really mention it in the story. I hope you enjoyed this one shot. Peace out bitches.)
