Oct 31 2015 : Saturday
9.30 AM - Had it been a normal weekend I'd have never woken up this early or I'd have been rather checking my whatsapp notifications lying on bed. But this weekend is something out of ordinary. I woke up before the dawn and headed towards pickup point of the trek. Cool breeze, tiny scortches of early morning sunrays, less polluted road and what else could be the reason for a comfortable vehicle ride. I reached the point on time, a positive and energetic vibe. We, a pretty small crew of 16, started from chennai and arrived nagalapuram around 8.30 AM. After having breakfast we were so geared up to hike the nagala west hills. One of the hardcore trekkers from our team acted as sweeper for this trek.We gathered around since he had called for a short meeting to familiarize quick gist of do's and dont's. I was listening with rapt attention and kinda got scared when he empathized the phrase "you miss the trial, you're lost". My mind dwindled and it started to think about negative consequences. What if I get lost somewhere? My team would obviously look for me but they'd get exhausted over a time. With no signal in the hills how do I call for a help? I'd barely follow all the trials and footprints with no idea where they are leading to. I may reach Sriharikota or even Srilanka ...who knows. A glance of visuals from the movies like life of pi, jungle book popped on my secondary vision. I wondered if I could meet any other person who got stranded in hills just like me. I Wish I could've learnt to swim. All I could sense was a lone life at the hills.
"CHEERS!!" crowd mumbled in unison which brought me and my creepy thoughts back to real world. The journey of thousand miles starts with a single step. People were helping themselves. Few were adjusting their bags, tightening their shoe laces, very few plugged on earphones to move around their own world and a good number were posing for a selfie. I'm always bewildered about the fact that how can girls come up with such beautiful smiles impromptu when selfie mode is triggered.I would like to cite a breif background about nagalapuram. Nagalapuram is a small town situated in Chithoor district of Andra Predesh. 85 km far from Chennai this town serves as monopoly of trekking destination. It is also preferred trekking spot for Karnataka and A.P as well. The fascinating climatic conditions, historic hills, surplus streams, pacifying pools and mother nature amuses much and nurishes it as a recommandable trekking spot. Trekking in Nagala can be of three types broadly :
Simple or Moderate - This is just dawn to dusk type trek and apparently suitable for beginers.
Medium - This involves exploring hills and possibly with a night stay.
Hardcore - Covering the whole Nagala.
Ours was a moderate trek and we'd return on the same day evening. "Treknic" - a trek cum picnic.
I clicked a picture myself with mesmerising mountain view behind me. "You look handsome" with no one to say these words, I uttered myself and followed the mob.
LETS GET STARTING THE TREK!!
