Story: in Tokyo Japan There is some creature that eats human and cannot eat a normal human food called ghouls.
Kaneki was a human being (keyword: was (past tense))
Until he Met Rize at The anteiku Cafè he decided to ask her out on a date and Rize approves but he didn't know that rize is a ghoul.
After they're date Rize decided to eat him but failed to fo so instead she died in an accident.
So kaneki can't survive without some organs so the doctor decided to pust some of rize's organs to him.
Until then kaneki had become a one eyed ghoul.
