Today is the first day living in the rugged, old mansion I have to learn to call home. After unpacking all of my precious belongings from my real home, I help my parents move the furniture into their designated spot. Afterwards, I have nothing entertaining to do, so I start to explore the house. I start by traveling the spiral staircase, and dizzy, I reach the top of the stairs and begin to search through closets and random doors to see if I can find any interesting things.I'm hoping to find a secret wardrobe that leads to another universe, but I guess a secret cubby or something would work, too. I find nothing. I give up and see what my brother,Will, is up to. I don't have any interest in searching the house again with him, for I have but a small sliver of curiosity left, not enough to make me hunger for discovery. I enter his living space and feel odd, the pictures and posters with loud writing and images on them aren't covering his walls like in our real home. "Will?" I say because he has not yet made an appearance.
"Hang on, I'll be out in a second" I hear him say excitedly, in a muffled voice. It sounds like it might be coming from the wall or maybe..." All of a sudden, a door appears out of a small section of the wall. For a second, I have trouble believing it's even there at all. It swings all the way open and its hinges let out a high squeal. I am startled at the sight of Wills head instantaneously popping out from behind the small door.
"Come here! I wanna show you something, its really cool!" He says. I can tell by the tone of his voice that he really is excited to show me something. I follow him through the door and into a small tunnel that I have crouch in to avoid my skull hitting the rock hard cement above. The tunnel is cold and damp, and I have an odd sort of feeling deep in my gut. Maybe there is some kind of a magical wardrobe at the end of this long, mysterious tunnel.
Finally, the tunnel ends at a small, metal door. There's a red X painted across of it, and I am more than happy to see a small keyhole slot on the left side of the door, in the middle of a golden knob. I can feel a slight draft, escaping through the slight crack at the bottom of the door, making me shudder and feel on end. My body tenses, adrenaline rushing through my veins, mixing with my blood, making me feel alert and ready for action. There is a draft, which means something lies beyond that door. It must be something secret, too, because its a locked door, behind an invisible door; it must be very important. I think of the red X. Maybe its dangerous, too. Something is in there, I know it, I can feel deep within the marrow of my bones. Yes, something is in there, i'm sure of it, but I have no intensions if finding out what it is.
I follow Will back out into his spacious room, and stand up, my back sore from leaning over. He stares at me, waiting for me to say something. "What?" I ask annoyed by the glare he is giving me.
"Well....." He says, still waiting.
"Well, I think you successfully found a door."
"Don't you see?! It's not just any door, it's metal, with a big red X on it! Didn't you feel the draft? There is something behind that door. And it's locked, locked and behind an invisible door! That is NOT an ordinary door."
"You can't go in there though, you need the key"I say, even though it's obvious.
"So? I'll find the key. It's gotta be in this house somewhere..." He says this confidently, like he's already found it, and begins to look around the room.
"But... Your not really going to go in there are you? I mean there could be..."
"Phhft, yay I am! Why not? Is someone afraid?" Will taunts.
"No, I'm just saying it's might not be safe, there might be something down there, or..."
"Scaredy cat Scaredy cat!"
