"You're transferring." My mom's voice cut through the everyday silence like a hot knife. Her statement made me spit out my juice.
"What'd ya say, mom? I thought I heard wrong."
"I said, you're transferring to new school next week. I've fixed everything already. No backing out now."
"Right, that's what I thought you said." Letting out an audible sigh, I sunk down low into my chair...
"Now, I know that this is hard for you, Maia, but we need this. A private school is very expensive and ever since your grandfather died, we've been struggling just to keep you in that school. I'm really sorry but with you going off to college in the next few years, we gotta save and this is what me and your dad ended up agreeing on. You know that we don't like having you transfer, but we all need this."
"I know mom." Standing up and bringing my dishes to the sink. "I'll just go back to my room and maybe sulk a bit."
"Maia-"
But my door already slammed shut.
I didn't know what to do besides cry myself to sleep that night. I mean, how can they do this to me? Where was my say in this? What about my friends, didn't they even think about my friends? Next week is gonna be one long week...
