Okay, I get it. Popular kids tend to be mean, as seen in Mean Girls. But this isn't a movie. This is a real life experience, or to be more specific, how I became popular within my community...according to me.
One November day, an illustrator visited the school and talked about her experience in the job. It was boring, really...until she assigned a drawing prompt to us. The prompt was to draw a scene where someone found something another person left behind at a train station. As usual, I grabbed my materials and got to work. Drawing is my dynamite, as you all probably know already.
"Damn, Mia! How do you even..." Joe started as he watched me work. Due to my drawing style, I was way ahead of everybody else.
"Oh my gosh, look at Mia!" Andy said as I kept working. Soon, a group of people were surrounding me. I didn't have much space.
"Can I see that?" A bunch of sixth graders asked. They goggled over my work as I showed it to them.
"Okay, okay. I really gotta finish this." I said as I took my drawing back. Five minutes later, I finished.
"How do you do that?" Joe asked. I flipped over my paper and as he watched, I managed to produce a headshot of Princess Leia.
"That's how I do it."
"She draws so fast, I don't know how she does it." Joe exclaimed to Andy.
Of course, most artists take their time with stuff, but when it comes to me, I tend to draw really fast. I can whip up a masterpiece in two hours. That's how fast I work. How, you might ask. Well, to be very honest, I really don't know.
"So what did you draw?" Katie asked right when class ended. I showed her what I produced. "Mia, that's so cool!"
Until this happened, the only people who knew of my artistic talent were Brittany, Kirsten, Luna, a few elementary school kids, and some of the teachers. Then, word got out to the other kids of the middle school that I was really good at drawing manga. Since then, they began complimenting me on my work. I don't know why I never showed off my talent to them before, knowing very well that they would be supportive. Of course, I wasn't always confident in my work. Back at my elementary school, my art teacher would be very critical of my work. There was one time she told me to redo the hair, as it was done anime-style. I cried the entire time.
But this school was different. According to Principal G, the school will help foster each and every child's talents. Of course, everybody's unique in some way. Luna's very good at singing, while Kirsten was good on the soccer field. Amy was a bookworm while I was really good at drawing manga. If you ask me, uniqueness is key to your character.
