Amortentia was supposedly the most powerful love potion in the world of Harry Potter but the Vampires have something much more powerful. Except, this wasn't in a form of a potion but rather, a girl.
In the prophecies, a descendant of Ra, the Egyptian sun God, was to have a descendant with a blood scent so powerful that it was impossible for any vampire to resist. But here's the catch, if you were to be around the same age of this girl, you'll fall inlove. Once you fall inlove, the charm will only be broken once this girl has chosen the one she wants to be with. Anyone inlove with this mortal girl, will be hopelessly attached to her until she makes her decision. If she hurts, so will her suitors - meaning that if she dies, so will they.
The only people that knew of Ari's gift were her paternal vampire grandparents and her vampire father. Everyday, Ari drinks a glass of awfully bitter Chinese medicine full of herbs to tone down her sweet scent. Ari, however, has been declined of knowing the true reason why she needed to drink such a vile tasting medicine.
Today remains the same as Ari downed the glass of Chinese Medicine for the nth time in her life. Her parents eyed her carefully, making sure that not a single drop of the liquid was left in the glass before smiling in contentment. It was always like this.
Ari's father slid a packet of pills towards her with caution, "Your mother told me that you were running low on the pills. Instructions for these are the same, just don't forget to take them after you eat."
The pills came in the shape of lozenges and in an ugly shade of greenish brown. It would have tasted like a minty altoid if it wasn't for the slight tinge of bitterness everytime Ari bit into it. This was why she never chewed on the pills although her father recommended her to do so. The pill would always be pushed down her throat by a huge gulp of water, it was like taking normal prescription pills.
These pills were to sustain the suppressed alluring scent of Ari's blood. Now that Ari was 17 and close to becoming an adult, the pills had a higher dosage. This meant that the medicinal tea was also much more bitter. Ari stuffed her mouth with pancakes in hopes of ridding her tongue of the awful taste.
"Ari," Ari glanced up at her mom expectantly, "thank you. Thank you for always being patient with us".
Ari could only offer a shy smile in response. She was their daughter and that made her obliged to be patient with them. It made her obliged to take all the bitter medicine without questioning or doubting her parents intentions. Most importantly, it made her obliged to believe it was only for her health's sake.
At a young age, Ari was lied to by her parents. It didn't matter at that time because Ari was young and innocent. She believed that the reason for having to take all these medicine was because she suffered an impacting illness when she was a baby. Somehow, all the medicine was to ensure that she had a stable health and strong immune system. However, Ari was now almost of age, and it worries her parents to death.
How were they going to break the truth to their only daughter? After lying to her for almost 18 years of her life, how was Ari going to understand that her whole life was based on a lie? How was she to accept that the fates of many vampires were going to be in her small hands? How was Ari going to live knowing she had to fall inlove and choose her lifelong partner before the age of 21?
"Alright kiddo, time to go to school!" Ari's father announced as she finished chewing the last piece of pancake. She slung her bag over her shoulders and gave her mom a quick peck on the cheek before rushing into the car with her father.
This was Ari's daily routine. For someone that came from a partially vampire family, her life was awfully mundane. But things don't always stay the same, and fate decided that 17 years of consistency was enough for Ari. Just as the car started moving, Ari sunk in her seat as she made a realisation.
Her pills had slipped from her pockets.
