I looked over at my husband for the last 7 years. As I watched him look and sort through some papers on his desk across the room, I couldn't help but look back at all the good and bad times we've had throughout our marriage. I sighed quitely.
"And there's plenty more to come", I said quitely to no one in particular.
"Hmm", my husband, Spencer Reid said as he looked over at me from his spot across the room. "What'd you say, babe?"
"Oh", I replied, smiling a little. I actually didn't realize he was paying any attention to me on account of he was so engrossed in the paperwork. "Oh, nothing, sweetie", I replied. I leaned up just a bit.
"Hey, what're you working on there?"
Spencer didn't look up this time. "Just some last minute assignements", he replied.
I frowned as I sat back on the couch. Actually, a part of me felt like a little kid pouting. That was actually something I was dying to talk to Spenc about. We've been married for a little while and I've been wanting something for a few years: a baby.
However, everytime I get the chance to bring the idea up to Spencer, something always gets in the way: we get a new case we have to take, one of our friends walks up, or something.
Now seemed like a better time than ever. "Hey, Spence", I said slyly, yet sweetly.
He looked up again. I was a bit surprised. "Yeah, babe?" he asked.
I was suddenly at a loss for words until my desire kicked in again. "Spencer, you know what I've been wanting more than anything else in this whole world?"
He seemed to think about it for a minute. "Oh, I know!" he cried, making my face light up. But that immeditaly went away when he responded with, "Those new red flats at the mall, right?"
'No, Einstein', I thought.
A smile came to his handsome face as he kissed my cheek tenderly. "Don't worry, sweetheart", he told me. "As soon as I'm done with this paperwork, we'll go down to the mall and I'll buy you those shoes."
And with that, he tunred back to his work and I was back where I started.
A week later....
I still had yet to tell Spencer my desire to have a baby. I couldn't actually. He was still head deep in a pile of papers. I rolled my eyes as I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye.
It seemed like the only time I've really seen him this past week has been at work or when he was going to bed. It was really starting to bother me.
So I decided to speak up. I stood up from where I was sitting on the couch and walked into the den.
"Spence, babe", I said softly. He looked up at me, the slightest bit of annoyance on his handsome face. "Yeah?" he replied.
I suddenly got nervous and the words I was about to say ran out of my head. 'C'mon, Asia", I thought to myself. 'You gotta say something!'
"Remember when I said there was something I was wanting more than anything in the world?" I asked. Spencer suddenly looked interested. "Yes...?" he asked. I took a deep breath. "Well-" I was cut off by the sound of my cell phone going off in my pants pocket.
'Perfect", I thought as I answered it. 'Just perfect!' "Asia Reid", I said. It was JJ, a friend of Spencer and I, and out co-worker. "Asia, I've got a new assignemt for you and Reid", JJ replied without even so much as a hello, sounding serious.
"But we didn't have to come into work today", I replied, really just wanting to stay home and relax. But I knew that didn't matter. I sighed out loud before saying, "What's the problem?"
