It was a cold night. The moon was full and the trees were hanging like haunting figures. The sound of craclking wood could be heard from the fire.

"Do we really have to walk all this way? Why couldn't mom and dad do it?" Jaxon spoke up. His voice was groggy and slow.

River rolled her eyes. She already explained twice. "Look, I've told you why. Mom and dad are too busy taking care of the villagers to deliver this food." She sighs, the exhaustion evident in her voice. "Besides, we're doing this for our people. You know how sick they are. We'll get medicine in return"

Jaxon looked into the dancing yellow and red flames. The light lit up his deep dark eyes. He sighed and grabbed one of the ripped dirty blankets and layed on his back.

"How many days do we have left before we get there?" He asked half asleep.

"Maybe three to four days. Hopefully not more than four" She says as she grabs a stick and pokes around the fire. "Go to sleep. I'll wake you up when we have to leave"

Jaxon didn't reply, he just turned on his side. His back facing the fire. Light snores could already be heard from him.

She gave a small smile, thinking about how tired her little brother must be. They had a long day. They started their journey early morning. Their parents, which are in control of one of the villages, asked them to deliver the canned foods to one of the villages. In return, the villagers will reward them with medicine for their own villagers.

You're probably wondering why they don't drive or just go to the hospital or just go to a store? They can't. These people are living in exile, in hiding. They are excluded from everything because they don't want to live under a sickening and suffocating command. They are basically a rebellion.

The government that has taken over, want command of all the people. They want to control everything and everyone. Robbing the land of its precious minerals for their own pleasure, killing animals as they see fit, blood sucking pests with briefcases
If they don't get their way, executions will take place.
These people in command are called
The Legion.

Its a dangerous trip for two adolescents to take because, The Legions recruitments are out and about searching for other things to destroy and take what is not theirs, but River was determined to show her parents that she could take care of herself and her brother. The woods are most probably the safest place to be at the moment. Nevermind the animals. River and Jaxon have been training for as long as they can remember. They have weapons packed aswell as communication devices if they pick up any trouble along the way.

How safe are they really? What is lurking in the dark? Are they being followed?

This was an introduction chapter. I hope you guys liked it. I have some questions :

Would you guys like it to be in first person POV(Rivers Pov, etc) or third peron POV (narrative)

This is a love story, not between River and Jaxon (weird), so would you guys like to see some smut or fluff?

Should I continue this story?

If you have any questions or suggestions, don't be shy c:
