"Go go go!"
At the pilot's signal I jump down from the helicopter, falling for about 25 feet before landing on the rooftop of the Queen Consolidated office building. The mechanical legs absorb most of the impact, leaving a shallow dent in the metal rooftop.
"Shit!" George misses the LZ, crashing through the glass skylight and disappearing into the building. I grab my rifle from my back, pulling back the slide before running over to the edge of the skylight. I hear a large splash, and as I reach the edge, I see George surface in the deep end of a deep pool. "Clear," he says, looking up at us as he treads water. I laugh before rappelling down to him with my other squadmate, Tommy.
The three of us should be the only ones on this floor, but after George fell into the pool, it's possible someone could come to investigate. We stack up against the door, getting ready to breach the rest of the building.
Then I hear Tracy's voice through my headset. "Cutting the power in 3...2...1..." At that, the room goes completely dark, the floor-to-ceiling windows surrounding us completely useless due to it being the middle of the night.
I turn on my night-vision goggles, interlaced with a thermal overlay and the room comes back into view. Then I quietly open the door, taking point as I lead my squad into the building.
I can hear someone talking in the room on our left, so I hold up a hand behind me, signaling for George and Tommy to stop. Then I open the door, quickly taking down the blinded people in the room.
The three of us make out way silently down the skyscraper, killing everyone in our way. So far we haven't seen Green Arrow...but even if he is here, I likely won't see or hear anything but the quiet whoosh of the arrow as it pierces my body armor.
Knowing that he might have been a threat, we chose our kit specifically to take him down. The four of us are carrying silenced MPX submachine guns and M9 pistols, as well as two flashbang grenades each. Our Kevlar vests are more than enough to stop any of his arrows, and with our thermal vision, the shadows will no longer work in his advantage.
Suddenly an arrow slams into my back. The sheer force of the impact throws me to my knees, but the Kevlar stops the arrowhead in its tracks. I spin around, pulling up my gun and spotting the Green Arrow as he runs behind cover. "Contact left!" I shout, firing at him.
I roll behind a metal cart just as another arrow flies past my head.Guess he isn't aiming for the vests anymore. As quickly as he appeared, he disappears. I get up from the ground, pulling the arrow out of my back. "Which way did he go?" I ask, turning back to my squad. George is pulling an arrow out of the side of his vest, but he points down the hallway.
As much as I would love to chase down this guy, the three of us have a mission to complete. We have to destroy the contents of a large safe in Moira Queen's office on the 37th floor.
Just as we make it to the stairwell, someone shoots George in the head. I turn around to see a black man with dark clothing walking down the hallway as he fires a Glock in our direction. "Contact!"
As we fire back, he ducks into a doorway on one side of the hallway. I grab one of my flashbang grenades, tossing it into the room before charging his position. The flashbang goes off, blinding him, and then I step into the room and shoot him twice in the chest and once in the head.
"Dig!"
The three of us leave the room to see the Arrow standing at the end of the hallway. He fires a single arrow before ducking around a corner again. The arrow hits my waist, and I look down to see it lodged in the remaining flashbang on my hip.
Suddenly it explodes, the blinding white exacerbated by my night-vision goggles. I shout out in pain, dropping my gun and tearing the goggles from my face.
"Tracy, bring back the lights!" I shout into my headset. I lean against the wall, looking down at the ground as I wait for my vision to come back.
Out of nowhere, someone punches me in the jaw. I fall back from the wall, stunned. I quickly bring my hands up to protect my face, but the same fist slams into my stomach. I can't fight an enemy I can't see!
I stumble backwards, landing on my back. As the lights finally come on, I look up to see the Green Arrow kneeling over me, a sharp arrow in his hand. He brings it down hard, aiming for my throat but I turn on my jetpack, sliding quickly across the floor and out of his reach.
Then I get up, grabbing my pistol and firing at him. I land a hit, but he throws down smoke, obscuring my aim. When the smoke clears, he's gone. In his place, George is lying in the center of the hallway, an arrow through his neck.
"Damn it, he got George!"
Tommy kneels next to our dead squadmate, and I put a hand on his shoulder. "He was a good man."
As we quickly but carefully make our way down the hallway, a girl drops down from the ceiling, landing on Tommy . She's wearing a black skintight outfit, with blonde hair and a black mask.
She knocks him it the ground, bashing him over the head with her boe staff before looking up at me. I raise my gun but before I can fire, she throws a small projectile at my shoulder. It embeds itself in my shoulder, throwing off my aim long enough for her to get away.
Now there's two of them? Even I have to admit that I'm no match for these two. I turn and run down the hallway, using the enhanced mechanics to run faster than any normal human could.
The end of the hallway is covered in floor to ceiling windows, and I jump through, with a loud crash. As soon as I'm free from the building, I activate my jetpack, flying down to the ground floor.
As expected, there's an empty black truck parked behind the building. This mission was a complete failure, but at least I'll get out of here alive. I land next to the back door of the building, running towards the truck.
Suddenly, Tommy's body lands on the hood of the car, denting the thin metal. Startled, I jump back before looking up. I don't see anyone around, so I drag Tommy's body off of the hood and get in the truck.
"Mission was a bust," I say frustratingly into my headset. I'm going to pay for this failure when I get back to base. My boss is not going to be happy.
