It was now 4 in the afternoon and Harry had to take Mandy home before her uncle was home. The ride to her house was quite, both of them thinking of the words that had been exchanged earlier. He had told her she was beautiful and she told him he was an angel sent from heaven. He reached out to grab her hand and she accepted it. Feeling his larger hand in hers ignited a growth of desire in her chest. "One day you should skip school and come to New York with me for the day." Harry suggested. She questioned his idea for a bit before she answered, "I don't know..What if they call my uncle or my dad that I wasn't at school?" He thought for a second before he added, " Call your dad and tell him you feel no good and your staying home." The scheme seemed cliché but worthy.
"When do you plan on doing this?" Mandy asked.
"Whenever you want. New York ain't going nowhere baby." She blushed at the pet name, blushing made her feel like even more of a child than she already was.
"How about this Wednesday?" She bit her lip.
"That's fine by me, I'll pick you up at the corner store at 7." He closed the deal as he pulled up
to her soft yellow colored house. She leaned in, kissed his cheek and smiled,"catch you on the flip side." Mandy stepped out of the car and closed the car door behind her. She sighed in relief seeing that her uncles navy van still wasn't parked in the driveway it made her skip up the stairs to her home, gleeful that she didn't get caught.
That night, the girl that once was in the passenger seat next to him wasn't anymore. Her presence had vanished and he felt alone again. His drive back to The Big Apple was dull except for the marathon on the radio that was playing Eric Clapton for 24 hours. Harry thought that by now he would've settled down with a nice girl that he would share his crappy apartment with, he thought that by now he would have someone to wrap his arms around and hug after he had a long day at the radio station, someone to have random dance parties with, someone to bicker at him for having his feet on the coffee table, or for not putting his dirty plate in the dishwasher. He didn't though, he was still alone in his small apartment in New York City.
Also that night, the girl that was beside him in his yellow Chrysler was now in a night gown, reading the latest issue of Cosmopolitan. She read the segment on girls who shared their story on how they met their significant other. She wanted to fall in love with someone who was also in love with her. And she thought, what if her significant other could be Harry? She had bonded with the boy so quickly that she hadn't realized its been a month since they met.
The time they had spent together flew by, because when time flies by, they were having fun.
