PROLOGUE

IN THE BEGINNING

“A story has no beginning or end: arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead.”
― Graham Greene, The End of the Affair

Years ago, King Thranduil and Queen Nenwen of Mirkwood longed to have a child to heir the throne. Until one day, a son was born with golden hair and silver eyes, and that was the queen and king’s happiest day of their lives: the birth of Prince Legolas. But Queen Nenwen knew that she would not stay in Middle-Earth for long because of her suffering of delivering her son, so she sailed to Valinor to recover, though the Queen had faith, for someday her family would reunite.

Meanwhile, in the land of Meriltaurë, the Queen Fëaraen Vanriel of Meriltaurë was a friend of Lord Thranduil. It was said in the tale of long ago, Queen Fëaraen was covered with grief because of the death of her husband, King Asador. It started at the time of the Last Alliance of the Elves fought against Sauron, Asador was chosen by fate to fight the dark-elf: Morellon.

Morellon’s history was interesting at first; he was called the “Praise of Elf” not “Morellon” for he served, respected and was good to his kinsmen. He fed the starving children, compassion to those who was in need, and showed them his mercy. However, his strong-willed and brilliance led him to his boastfulness, he never felt like helping others, he just showed them how great he was but he himself was not that great at all. So to be more powerful or maybe the most powerful of all elves, he made a contract with Sauron that he would make him almighty in exchange that he would be Sauron’s future self, the latter was satisfied and agreed. And this, The Praise of Elf became Morellon.

At the battle of Sauron, Fëaraen and Asador were there that day. And Asador nearly gained his victory, but he died when he gave Morellon his final blow. When she saw her lover died in battle to save Middle-Earth, tears fell down from Fëaraen’s eyes, furthermore that Morellon was still alive, revealing that the destiny of Asador’s fight with Morellon was wrong, and no any being or race that was made in Middle-Earth could kill the dark-elf, and it was also that time when Isildur did not casted the One Ring into the fire of Mordor. And this made the Queen Vanriel grieved so much.

Years later, Fëaraen’s woeful days still remained. Then Elbereth, Queen of the Valar heard her cries; she was so sorry for her and would not let darkness cover her days so she asked Eru the One for help to return the elven queen’s happiness. Eru gave Elbereth his light.

The light Eru owned was very known to be his most precious treasure he had created. But I may say that his light was not literally a light, it was actually a lovely maiden with pointed ears that the race of elves was inspired by her own image. And also, she was loved by those who knew her, and due to this, Eru believed that his light-daughter would lead Fëaraen and the others to joy.

Finally, about one hundred fifty-four years later, happiness came when Fëaraen found out that she was pregnant and Asador was the father, the people of Meriltaurë were congratulating her, and also, that was the time when they remembered Asador and his goodness.
