It was your choice, yes, to accept that promotion will all the benefits it had. You'd barely graduated fresh out of college, and because of your excellent grades and GPA, you found a job pretty quickly. Very good pay, great co-workers, and even the employee benefits were enough to keep you there. Within a year of working though, your boss decided to offer you what he liked to call a 'promotion'. Based on your resume, he saw you the most befitting for the 'promotion'.

"I see that you studied in Asia at some point." He said as you leaned back in his office chair that represented his authority. He kept a smile on his face as he continued to question you, perhaps he was more excited than you were.

"Yes, sir. I studied in Japan, and interned at China. I'm pretty familiar with the languages."

That's all it took for him to excitedly clap his hands while rising from his chair. He walked around his desk, his hands grasping the other as he walked past you and outside his office. Your eyes following him until he disappeared. You took his excitement as something positive. At first you though the reason he wanted you at his office was because he was going fire you, or worse, lay you off. Luckily it wasn't none of that. But maybe, just maybe it would have been better if you were laid off or fired.

Because he came back into the room with a vanilla colored envelope in his hand. He placed it on the desk in front of you, then sat back on his chair across from you. You gazed at the envelope, confusion written all over.

"Sir?"

"Miss. (Surname), would you like to work in another country for a while?"

And that's how you ended up here in Japan. Working for a great company with really good pay. But unfortunately, it came with the package of loneliness.

You anticipated this actually. You were already solo before so what made you think you could make friends? All of your co-workers were much older, and unfortunately, men.

Of course there were females, but these females kept to specific groups. Everyday at lunch, the small group of women would get together and eat out. No one bothered to invite, which was okay with you. If you tried to conversations with them you wouldn't find anything interesting to say. After all, as if now, your life revolved around handling international affairs and translations. It was hard work at times, but you loved it.

Okay, your work wasn't hard per se, but it was time consuming. Lucky for you, you broke out of that procrastination faze. The one all students go through? Yeah that one.

Working in your department meant no time for socializing. Sometimes it was lonely, and you wanted to cry because it was hard to call your parents, due to time difference that is. But at this point no tears came out. Just sniffles. Or sobs.

Anyways it hurt to be alone. You wanted to have the pleasure of calling someone up and asking them to hang out. You wanted to engage in a conversation and laugh until you felt like peeing.

Alas, that wasn't going to happen anytime.

A co-worker walked by your office, peeking their head curiously to see what you were up too.

"(Surname)-San? Aren't you going home now? It's late!"

You whipped your head up to meet your tired eyes with his. He solemnly smiled at your tired appearance. "I think you should get some sleep too. A pretty girl like you deserves it."

He smiled, then walked away.

'Ugh...I should get sleep.'

Your current project was long completed before it's due time, so you didn't have to worry about it. You just stayed behind because there was nothing to go home.
