I woke up to the sound of Carly Rae singing 'Call me maybe' on my phone. I groaned and flipped to my other side and smothering myself deep into my sheets and encased my head with my pillow, covering my ears. The singing stopped and I went back into a relaxed form, uncovering my ears and trying to search for my dream again. I was halfway back to sleep when 'Call me maybe' came on for the third time this morning. Giving up, I outstretched my hand and found my phone and peeked one eye open to find the green button, then pressed it to my ear, closing my eyes once more and relaxed my muscles.
"It's about time you pick up the phone! I've been calling you all afternoon!", my boss, Lynn, screeched in my ear, which made my muscles tense up again. This shouldn't be good.
"Today is suppose to be my day off, Lynn. What do you want?" I said, wiping my eyes and slowly sitting up and reaching to turn on my lamp on my nightstand. As I turned it on, I also looked at my alarm clock which read 2:53 pm. I couldn't have slept that long in the day?
Could I?
"I know, and I'm so sorry to call you out here to do some work, its just we are really behind and we have the gallery opening tomorrow night. We still have a lot of unpacking to do and decorating. By the way, Happy Birthday."
I don't even get why I try with Lynn. I'm now working at an art gallery. Its Lynn's, Jake's, Josh's, and my own art work that is being put out. Lynn is very petite with blonde silky hair that falls to her shoulders. Jake is a very buff with shaggy beach blonde hair, also. And Josh is a very skinny and tall guy with hair that is short enough not to cover his ears that is dark with natural blonde streaks. We worked really hard the past few months to get this gallery even remotely started. Now, tomorrow night is the big night it is going to be opened and a hundred people are going to be looking at my art work. This something all too new for me. I just hope they like my art work, and maybe get bought. It took me a whole month just to do three of my pieces. They turned out extraordinary at the end, so I guess you could say it was a job well done.
"Why can't you get Jake or Josh to get it? They're a lot more stronger than me anyways." I pinched the bring of my nose, feeling an oncoming headache.
Lynn always does this last minute thing. You see, we all four went to the same college, and Lynn was always the one to set up rules, and be the head of everything. We would set up small little auctions at her grandparents coffee shop one time. People liked our art work, but only a handful actually bought something. Don't get me wrong, I love Lynn with all my heart and shes helped me through a lot of things, its just she can be so controlling sometimes and acts as if she has control over you like a puppet.
"Josh called in sick and you know Jake is always the lazy kind.", she said, not sounding the least bit sympathetic.
"Fine give me an hour.", was my only response.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She said, sounding as if she would like to just come through the phone and hug me to death.
As soon as I ended the call, I threw the covers off me and padded towards the bathroom. I live in a small apartment in Chicago. Like most apartments, the neighbors are loud and obnoxious, and you only have that one neighbor who is sweet, kind, and will give you a cup of sugar when you need it. I'm the nice one that is surrounded by a bunch of idiots that don't know where the mute button is on the radio.
I practically live in a nut shell. I go to work, and that's about it. Sure, I go out sometimes with friends, but that's kind of died down some since I have a huge obligation towards this gallery. My name is Katherine Clearwater. I have dark hair with natural curls that cascades below my shoulder blades. I have an olive skin tone with some freckles here and there. I wouldn't consider myself beautiful, but I wouldn't consider myself ugly either. I have a star shaped birthmark right below my ear and a cut over my eyebrow, that I still to this day have no clue how I got it.
