The walk into darkness

We are driving along the duel carriageway to Bath. It is a cold, grey day and rain is not far away. The light is fading and it will soon be dark. The road is winding in places and we have to be careful. All of a sudden the cars in front of us start to slow, we can see no reason. I am worried. Has there been an accident? As we approach the brow of the hill a large, holiday coach swerves wide onto our side of the road. My Mum slams on her brakes, not knowing why the coach driver is doing this and we all panic. All of a sudden we notice a kestrel or a similar bird of prey standing in the middle of the road, as of he owned the road and was controlling the traffic. We start to laugh because a little bird has caused the coach to swerve and was even now controlling the traffic on the main road to Bath. I notice how frustrated the coach driver is getting and he suddenly starts edging forward. As the coach driver gets closer, the car in front of us abruptly pulls over to the side of the road and the driver gets out. Now everyone has suddenly frozen, no one moves and some people even get out their cars. The driver in front suddenly runs across the road, the drivers that hadn't stopped swerve away from him and two cars collide. Everyone is now out their cars and either calling ambulances or trying to help the injured drivers, and the is still edging forward. The man has now stopped between the small space between the coach and the bird. I don't think the coach driver has seen him because he continues to move the coach forward until I heard a piercing scream in my ears. I immediately cover my 10-year-old brother's eyes and ears, I know he isn't going to want to see or hear this.

First his toes, then his legs, then his stomach...after that, after the pool of deep red blood surrounding the coach's front wheels, I don't want to see what happens next. I hear my head screaming at me to look away, but I can't. I freeze in shock as I watch the last of the poor man's body be demolished by the enormous holiday coach. All I can do is hug my little brother soo tight he can't hear anything and when he asks what is going on I just say nothing is happening. How can I tell a 10-year-old boy three people were dieing and no one could do anything?! I feel a tear escape from my wide eyes as the bird flies away and I continued to stare in shock of what was happening in front of me.

SUDDENLY I WOKE SCREAMING. AND HOMELY FEELING MY PILLOW OFFERED ME BUT FALLING INTO YET ANOTHER DEEP SLEEP, WHERE MORE NIGHTMARES AWAITED 'ME.

I am in a park. I don't know where but u know I'm in a park. I am swinging on rusty, squeaky swings and its dark. How did I get here? The sky looks as though the sun has just set. Suddenly a dark figure starts to approach me, its a man. The figure is tall and it isn't until he is right up close to me until I recognise him. It's my Dad. He holds out his hand and I take it, glad to get away from the haunted swings that I have now left behind me. We walk down a path and we stop when we come to a bench near a pond, a duck pond, but there are no ducks and the water is still. As if it's frozen.

Something is wrong; I feel a slight breeze in the night sky, all of a sudden, and shudder. I am only wearing thin black leggings and my favourite red strap top and my flip flops. My Dad is wearing jeans and a thick coat, which is unusual for him. He takes off his coat and wraps it round my shoulders, grateful for the heat I smile at him in silent thanks. We sit on the bench for a bit, we don't talk until my Dad starts saying how much he loves me and how he would do anything for me. What's going on??

Suddenly I hear a scream. "What was that?" I gasp in shock. My Dad jumps to his feet and starts running into the woods ahead of the pond, where the scream came from, I run after him but I'm not as fast.

"Wait! Wait Dad!" I scream after him but I only get yelled at back, "Go Grace!!! Go hide!"

At first I didn't know what he meant until I saw two men dressed in black run out of the woods and it didn't take me long to realise what my Dad had meant. So I ran. I ran as fast as I could, as far away as I could, but I had lost my Dad. I stop abruptly and turn to face the dark, deathly looking woods I had just ran from. My head is screaming at me to get out of here but my heart is screaming to go back for my Dad.

I started making my way back into the woods, I see my Dad and freeze on the spot, he was tied to a tree. As soon as I caught his eye all I could see was his disappointment. I had fallen right into their trap. They wanted my Dad and now they got me as well. I had just got my Dad untied and was about to run when I was grabbed roughly from behind me, "And where do you think your going, missy" a man snarled in my ear.

"We ain't finished with you yet." Whispered the other voice from behind me, which sent shivers down my spine. My Dad was now retied to the tree again and my hands were tied behind my back. One of the men came forward with a sharp knife; I cringed as the shining blade caught the moonlight. The other man came forward now, "You like shiny things, don't you?" he whispered in my ear.

I didn't answer. They start to approach my Dad, smiles on their faces, my Dad just waited, waited for them to reach him as if he had saw this coming.

"How long do you think it will take?" the man with the blade snarled at the other man, purposely loud enough for me to hear. The other man didn't answer, it was as if he felt sorry for my Dad in some ways.

Suddenly a loud scream made its way to my ears, making my eardrums pop, I look up to see my Dad scream in agony as the man with the blade dragged the blade from the top of my Dad's neck down, ripping his clothing in the process, after about fifteen minutes of torture, they decided to leave my Dad to bleed to death and me to watch. All I could say was how sorry I was.

About two minutes later he breathed his last breath and went stiff. Tears flooded my eyes.

"I love you Dad" I whisper to myself as I struggle against the rope that was round my wrists and the last tear fell from my eye as I looked at my Dad's corpse one last time.

Suddenly I felt arms around me, I looked around but there was nobody there...

I ABRUPTLY AWOKE WITH MY MUM'S ARMS AROUND ME, I SCREAM INTO HER CLOTHES UNTIL THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT IIN ME. IT WAS SEVEN O'CLOCK, TIME TO GET UP, ONLY ABOUT FOURTEEN HOURS UNTIL MY NEXT SET OF NIGHT TERRORS WAITING FOR ME TO CLOSE MY EYES.
