"Mr Sykes and Miss Ryle stop flirting and interrupting my lesson," the professor said drawing attention to us at the back.
I blushed under the gazes while Nathan pulled his lip ring back, "it's Miss Ryan," Nathan retorted as he narrowed his eyes at the professor.
The professor rolled his eyes, "whatever. Pay attention, I'm not the one taking the exam at the end of the semester." Then he went back to talking.
Ben, who was sat beside us chuckled, "funny how you two have been flirting the whole semester and he only catches you now," he said quietly with a shake of his head.
Nathan tightened his grip on my hand and shot Ben a glare, "shut up," Nathan muttered.
Ben held his hands up in defense, "not starting anything mate. Just stating the facts."
"Yeah well you are a dick. Just stating the facts." Nathan snapped.
I frowned at Nathan, "hey calm it. Now apologise," I said.
Nathan raised an eyebrow, "yeah right," he scoffed and looked back towards the professor.
I sighed as I looked at Ben, "sorry," I mouthed to him.
He shrugged and held a thumbs up before going back to taking notes. I looked back at Nathan and saw him doodling with my pen on the corner of my notes book. I took the pen back off him and started writing down any notes I would need for the exam at the end of the semester.
"Don't give me the cold shoulder," Nathan whispered.
I shrugged, "I'm not," I said nonchalantly.
He gave a force chuckle, "course not," he said sarcastically.
I looked at him, "just leave it Nathan." I said annoyed.
He frowned slightly as I took my hand out of his, "what have I done this time?" he asked, his tone sharp.
"What haven't you done?" I blurted out.
Nathan's eyes widened slightly before he narrowed them at me, "it's fine. I see how it is, blame everything on me because I always fuck everything up." He said harshly and stood up.
"Nathan I didn't mean-" I started but he had already began walking away. The students looked at his retreating figure as he stormed out leaving the hall echoing from the slammed door. The professor sighed and looked up at me before he went back to teaching.
I sighed as I sat back in the chair, "he'll get over it," Ben said.
"I hope so," I mumbled.
*Nathan's POV*
"What haven't you done?" Lexi blurted out.
I looked at her with wide eyes before I narrowed them, "it's fine I see how it is, blame everything on me because I always fuck everything up." I retorted and stood up quickly.
I started walking away, "Nathan I didn't mean-" Lexi trailed when she probably realised I had left her. I ignored the questioning looks of the other students and of the professor as I stormed out the lecture hall, slamming the door behind me.
I walked into the quiet hallway and gave a sound of frustration. I ran a hand through my hair before turning and walking out into the courtyard that was now covered in snow creating a winter wonderland. Funny, we barely get snow.
I headed over to the arch and leaned against the wall. I closed my eyes as I felt the ice cold flakes flow down and land on my face before turning into cold water droplets.
"What's wrong with you sexy?"
I groaned but didn't open my eyes, "go away Ally," I snapped.
She laughed, "come on baby I know you have missed me," she teased and I felt her finger trace along my jaw. I opened my eyes and grabbed her hand.
"Stop," I said.
Ally bit her lip trying to look innocent which didn't work with her green streaks in her hair. And she wasn't Lexi.
"You must have missed me. That Lexi girl can't be giving you what you need," Ally whispered.
She leaned forward and I let her, "plus you don't like her we know you don't. It's not like she would find out and if she does then that hurries everything along doesn't it? She has already fallen for you. You just need to finish it."
Everything she was saying was true. However I had a sense of dread in the pit of my stomach just by looking at Ally.
"I'm going to do it my way, not Austin's or yours or anyone else's. So back off," I said harshly and pushed her away slightly.
"Baby don't be like that," she pouted.
I rolled my eyes, "just stop Ally. Stop it."
Ally narrowed her eyes at me, "that little bitch has ruined everything. Austin should never have come up with this idea, how about I go tell her? Go tell her what you have planned? I mean it's not like you like her anyway. This way Austin gets what he wants and we can go back to our old ways with a broken Lexi."
I grabbed her arm, "don't you fucking dare. I do it my way! That's the rules!" I shouted.
"Ben is also doing it as well." Ally retorted.
I glared at her, "but she's with me. I'm the only one who can do it."
"Where is Lexi right now then Nathan?" Ally asked, "you are out here, then who is with her right now."
"Ben." I muttered.
Ally smirked, "why you are out here trying to defend yourself for no reason Ben is working his way into her heart. So if you want to be the one to go through with it then why did you leave Ben with Lexi?"
I went to say something but instead I just pushed Ally away slightly and then quickly headed back into the building. I made my way towards history just as the bell rang and students filled out into the hallway. I pushed my way in and saw Lexi laughing at something Ben had said.
As I clenched my fists together I made my way over to them and grabbed Ben by his shirt, "woah what's wrong?" Ben asked confused.
I threw a punch towards his face, "Nathan what are you doing?" Lexi asked shocked.
I lifted Ben back up and whispered in his ear, "stay the fuck away from my girl," and then pushed him away.
Ben wiped his bloodied nose as I went over to Lexi. She looked at me with wide eyes and backed away slightly.
I stopped walking when I saw the fear across her face, "I won't hurt you," I said quietly.
Lexi took a shaky breath before looking behind me at Ben, "are you alright?" she asked concerned.
I glared at the students who had watched and they quickly scattered.
"Yeah I'll be fine," Ben replied.
Lexi nodded her head before she looked at me, "you can't go around hitting people for no reason!"
"I can do what I want." I said harshly.
Lexi rolled her eyes, "yeah keep it up with that attitude and you will have no one," Lexi answered and then turned and walked away.
I watched her leave feeling as if the whole world hated me today.
"Why the hell did you hit me anyway?" Ben asked.
I turned and looked at him with a glare as he cleaned up his nose, "Ally got to me. Just stay away from Lexi."
"Nathan you know I won't do that to her. I don't even like the idea, yeah it was funny in the first place but now it's just wrong. I won't do anything to Lexi but you need to find out if you will or not, either way she'll hate us all when she finds out." Ben answered.
"She won't find out." I replied.
Ben raised an eyebrow before wincing slightly, "oh yeah? How come?"
"No one is going to tell her. I'm going to finish it between Lexi and I, then if what everyone is saying that Lexi has fallen for me it will be easy enough and then I would have done what Austin said." I said simply.
Ben sighed, "it will hurt you as well Nathan and you know it. I'm not going to tell you what to do but Austin must have a reason for doing this, he has never asked us to do this before. So why now?"
"He was bored," I lied.
Ben shrugged, "don't tell me then. But just think, if you don't do it properly anything he has on you could come out." Ben said and then walked away.
I frowned. I got my phone out and scrolled through the contacts until I reached the one that I need.
"Nathan, what's up mate? How is the lovely Lexi?" he asked.
"We need to talk Austin."
*Lexi's POV*
As I sat down in literature I thought about Nathan. He had no reason to hit Ben, no reason that I knew about. I sighed as I tried figuring out why Nathan would insist on hitting Ben. Although Nathan would hit anyone who looked at me in the wrong way, he was way too over protective. I guess I was too harsh on him earlier, I just blurted it out.
My phone buzzed slightly bringing me out of my thoughts, I got out my phone and saw a text from Brooke.
'Creepy stalker guy sent more flowers this morning x -Brooke'
Brilliant. Just what I need. It's been a few days since the last time he sent something and I thought it was over, turns out it's not.
'Great, thanks Brooke. I'll go over after class aren't you meant to be in art? x -Lexi'
'I am in art. Just wanted to tell you, okay see you later x -Brooke'
I put my phone away and looked back up at the professor. I wrote down any important notes that I would need and tried paying attention for the rest of the lesson.
When the bell sounded I quickly collected up my things and shoved them in my bag. I left with the other students and got into the busy hallway. I quickly headed out the building and shivered at the cold contact against my face. I made my way over to the dorm block, I went inside and got out some change before going over to the vending machine and got a sandwich then I headed upstairs until I got to my floor.
I went to my dorm and unlocked the door before entering. I closed the door and put my bag down on my bed that I haven't slept in for a while now. There was a bunch of flowers on my desk with another note. As I unwrapped the note I thought about how Nathan would react if he found it that the stalker guy was still sending flowers. Should I tell the campus police? There isn't much they could do anyway.
I read out the letter feeling a sense of dread, "dear Lexi, why haven't you broken up with that idiot yet? He really is no good for you but I'm here to make an offer. I'll tell you who I am if you go on a date with me," I read, "meet me under the oak tree in the courtyard at 7pm tonight. Tell no one."
I gulped, "bloody hell," I murmured.
I ran a hand through my hair and began pacing. I have to go. But if I go then I might as well have just signed my death sentence. I stopped pacing and took a deep breath. I'm going to go. I need to go.
"Lexi," I heard Brooke said as she opened the door. I shoved the letter into the back pocket of my jeans and grabbed my sandwich and began to open it.
"Hey Brooke," I said and gave a reassuring smile as I opened my sandwich.
Brooke returned the smile, "hey, so what did the note say?"
I shrugged and took a bite of my sandwich. Once I swallowed I amswered, "just the stalker being creepy but I have a feeling that it will stop soon." I said and gave a small smile
Brooke nodded her head, "you should tell the campus police," Brooke said and put her things down, "but they probably wouldn't do much about it."
"Yeah that's what I thought," I said giving a small laugh and went to take another bite of my sandwich but all the nerves for tonight started to kick in making me not hungry.
"How are you and Nathan?" Brooke asked as she turned on the television, "haven't seen you for a while."
I shrugged and sat down on my bed, "okay I guess. He punched Ben today for no reason what so ever. And I kind of said something to piss him off so he stormed out of history." I admitted.
Brooke nodded her head, "yeah he has a short temper. Where you staying tonight?"
"Here if that's okay?" I asked and then realised I need a lie for tonight, "but Nathan wants to go on a date tonight to make up for what happened," I laughed, "but I'll still stay here."
Brooke grinned, "great. That's sound strange of him he normally just let's everything plan out," Brooke said slowly.
I shrugged, "he might have changed?" I suggested.
"This is Nathan we're talking about," Brooke laughed.
I joined in but my mind was somewhere else. I could get murdered tonight and no one would even know.
"Up for watching the vampire diaries until your date tonight?" Brooke asked.
I nodded my head in agreement, "yeah sure."
"What time is Nathan picking you up?" Brooke asked as I grabbed my laptop and then hooked it up to the television.
"I'm meeting him at 7pm," I answered and changed the channel until the vampire diaries came up.
"This is seriously strange for Nathan," Brooke laughed again.
I gave her a smile, "yeah it is," I replied and sat back on my bed as it started.
I tried keeping my mind off tonight as I watched television but my mind kept drifting to who sent those notes. Why are they sending the notes? The flowers? The chocolates? Presents? Just why.
I kept tapping my fingers against my phone impatiently. As every minute went on I felt myself feeling sick with dread and anticipation. The nerves had kicked in completely, I debated staying just here and to forget about it all but soon enough the curiosity would eat at me. I needed to know who this person was and then try and let it go.
"Lexi? Lexi?" Brooke called repeatedly.
I looked at her confused, "yeah?" I asked.
"It's half six," she said slowly and then laughed a little, "you look so nervous."
I got off my bed and checked the time, 6:36pm. Shit. I went through my closet and picked out a black skater skirt with a white button up shirt and a black knitted sweater also tights.
"So when you are rushed you pick cute outfits?" Brooke joked and turned her back so I could get ready.
I gave a small smile as I took off my jeans and slipped on my tights then my skirt. I took off my jacket and t-shirt, I put on more deodorant then buttoned up my shirt before slipping on the jumper. I tucked the jumper and skirt into my skater skirt then quickly slipped on my converse. Brooke turned back around and nodded approvingly at my outfit. I checked the time once again, 6:51pm.
I went over to the dresser and brushed through my hair, quickly getting out any knots. I grabbed a black coat and slipped it on them grabbed my phone before letting out a sigh of relief.
"You look good, now go have fun okay?" Brooke teased, "don't be out too late."
I rolled my eyes, "okay. Bye Brooke," I said quickly and then hurried out of the dorm room.
I went down the stairs quickly, careful not to fall over. I headed out into the cold the sun was set now due to the winter weather. I made my way over to the big oak tree that was covered in snow and waited there. I looked around seeing a few students hurrying inside or going out to eat.
I checked the time on my phone, 6:58pm. I let out a breath seeing the cold air make it misty. I pulled the sleeves of my jumper of my hands and rubbed my hands together trying to get warm. A chill went down my spine at a cold wind blowing against my face. I kept looking around trying to see anyone who was coming over towards the oak tree. There were the lampposts on around the campus so people could still see.
I checked my phone again, 6:59pm. This was going so slow. 7:00pm. I felt myself tense up and looked up from my phone. No one was here.
"Hello Lexi," a voice said.
I turned around and squinted my eyes slightly before they widened, "it's you." I said shocked.
*Brooke's POV*
As I watched the vampire diaries with Lexi I noticed that her attention wasn't really on the television. She looked like she was somewhere else. I wonder what that note could have said, I never read it but Lexi said that it should all stop soon enough.
I checked the time and saw that it was gone 6:30. I got off my bed, "Lexi," I called but she ignored me.
I frowned, "Lexi? Lexi?" I tried again and she looked up at me confused
"Yeah?" she asked confused.
"It's half six," I said slowly then gave a small laugh, "you look so nervous." It was true, she did look so nervous.
She quickly got off her bed and headed over to her closet. I rolled my eyes at her rushing before seeing the outfit she had picked out.
"So when you are rushed you pick cute outfits?" I joked and turned away so she could get ready.
I inspected my nails seeing that they had chipped a little. I need to go over them. When I heard a small cough I turned back around and saw her ready, I nodded approvingly at her outfit. Lexi looked really worried for some reason before it cleared. She brushed her hair quickly then grabbed a coat that went with her outfit. She also got her phone then looked at me.
"You look good, now go have fun okay?" I teased, "don't be out too late."
She rolled her eyes, "okay bye Brooke!" she said them rushed out.
I laughed at her before going over to my desk. I picked up my nail polish remover as I sat down in my chair. I started removing the pink nail vanish when someone stormed into the dorm.
I turned and frowned when I saw Nathan, "why are you here?" I asked confused.
He glared at me, "where's Lexi?" he asked.
I stood up and looked at him confused, "she's on a date, with you." I said slowly.
He looked at me confusion clear on his face, "no she's not. I pissed her off and haven't spoken to her since this afternoon. Where is she Brooke?" he asked his voice getting louder. He clenched his fists together in anger.
"I just told you! She told me she had a date with you!" I replied.
"Then where the fuck is she?" he shouted.
"I... I don't know." I mumbled.
Nathan let out a sound of anger before punching the wall.
