AN: I got inspired by my professor's story. And this just went running through my head, all throughout the discussion. I hope you like it. :)
The Elevator
"Hi hon,"
"Bye, hon,"
These were the exchanged words.
They became our 'I love you's. But we only get to say them whenever we met.
Which was twice a day.
I remember the first day we met, it was in Elevator 3 of our common workplace in New York. Drew was one of the workers of the graveyard shift, and I was on the morning shift.
I was all over the lobby. Wind swept hair, ruffled clothes, stacked papers in my hand, my bag in the other, my phone wedged between my shoulder and cheek as I talked to my superior who was demanding the paperwork.
Just as I was to board the elevator, I was forced backwards and landed on my behind, scattering the papers and dropping my bag and phone.
"Damn," I muttered as I picked up everything. I am so gonna give him a piece of my mind! Good thing he's helping me with my stuff, or else-
"Uh, miss?"
I looked up and almost fell back on my behind again. I was staring at the bluest blue I have ever seen. What shade was it? Kinda electric blue-"
"Miss," he was waving his hand in front of my face. "You okay?"
I swatted his hand away. "No, I'm kinda late and I have my superior breathing down and ready to chop my neck, and now, you messed up the paperwork."
He held up his hands. "Whoa, I'm sorry. Here, let me help you."
Being the stubborn Heidi Williams that I am, I stood up on my own. And brushed down my skirt. I boarded the elevator, and to my surprises, he too boarded. "What?"
"I'm helping you." He grabbed the papers from my hand. "Don't argue. Which floor?"
"Tenth."
He pressed the button and the elevator whirred to life. I tried my best to straighten myself enough to look presentable while he shuffled the papers.
"There, done." he said just in time the elevator doors open. He handed the papers to me and I said a silent 'thank you'.
"You're welcome," he said arrogantly and smiled. "See you around, miss-?"
Think of a fake name, quick. "Jess Kimmel."
"HEIDI WILLIAMS!"
Gee, thanks, boss.
My supervisor marched right out of his office and straight towards me. I glanced back at the elevator and saw him smirk and mouth, "Bye, Heidi Williams."
Yup. That's pretty much how we met.
I don't know how or why, but after that, I would almost always board the elevator with him.
I would be rushing up to the office, and he going down to presumably go home.
"Hi, Heidi Williams." He would always greet me like that.
Until one day that he said more than 'hi' and my name.
"Don't make me sound like a fool. My name is Drew Mason."
