Another day had passed, her birthday, and still there she was.
Mother wouldn't let her go out just to see the floating lights but she wouldn't give up that easily neither.
She would try, and try, and try until mother changed her mind but what she didn't want to admit was that just as another birthday had passed so did a tiny piece of hope from her ever leaving the tower to see what did the outside world hide.
It was 7:00 am and it was one of those really sunny days that seemed perfect for being outside running, and swimming, and laughing and... But of course those were only things she could just imagine because she was there, locked in a tower with no other way in or out than her hair.
The hair. She sighed. Her hair was the reason she was there though mother said her that it was also because the world was too dangerous for a weak and innocent girl like her, but truly inside Rapunzel believed that it was all because of the hair that mother worried so much because she had told her men had fought for it before but what they didn't know was that when it was cut it lost its powers.
Of course mother was afraid of her getting hurt or something worse but maybe if her hair wasn't so special, mother wouldn't bother letting her see the floating lights.
She wondered laying on bed how her life could have been if she didn't have seventy-feet long hair with magical powers.
Maybe mother and her could have lived in a cottage at the village with the other people. She could have made some friends, oh but probably she wouldn't have met Pascal that would be bad because she loved him, he was his only companion along the last seventeen years besides her mother who was most of the time outside; Yes the world was too dangerous for her but for mother, wasn't. It sounded kind of weird when Rapunzel thought about it, but mother was a wise lady and she knee more than Rapunzel in many ways; of course she willed to learn more but the only way she could knew about the world was from books but how was she supposed to be ready for facing the word (if she was ever going to face it) if mother didn't let her go out and discover by her own.
Pascal chirped and got her out of her thoughts.
"Hey I didn't see you there" Rapunzel giggled and the green chameleon replied with another chirp "Oh true. C'mon Pascal we have a lot to do today" Rapunzel got up and started walking out of her room but Pascal chirped again
"What now?" She turned her head back to the chameleon who was looking a her mischievously and changed into a crying yellow color and the into a red one, apparently trying to say something to the blond girl.
"Yes, we will play but after we finished with today's chores" Pascal turned into a deep blue "C'mon Pascal you know we have all day we'll play whatever you want when we are finished, okay?" She asked the chameleon leaning forward towards him.
Pascal didn't seem that happy but he still climbed Rapunzel's hand when she offered to him.
Down stairs, Rapunzel put her hands on her waist and took a brief look around the room before starting sweeping and cleaning.
After sweeping, cooking, waxing and brushing her long hair finally she finished and it barely had passed 20 minutes.
"Okay, Pascal, I'm done. What do you want to do?"
The chameleon chirped and with his tail he pointed the window.
Rapunzel raised her head to see what was the chameleon trying to say. She sighed and grabbed her pet's tail , who was already by the window, bringing him back inside.
"No, I don't think so. Let's stay here and don't worry mother; besides I'm sure that's are plenty of thing to do here" she forced a smile and looked around to evade the chameleons gaze, but only got disappointed. Yep, it was just a chameleon, a so much smaller creature but for her was really intimidating.
"Here I know, c'mon" She walked to a table near the stairs and got a basket full of fabric "You'll love the new outfit I'm making you"
Pascal chirped loudly before running to the window again and she just giggled.
"Oh, Pascal. Please?" She ran towards Pascal when a cold breeze interrupted.
It was really awkward such a cold breeze in the middle of spring.
Rapunzel shivered before pulling Pascal back inside and closing her windows with a loud sound that echoed in the room.
