Chapter 3: The apartment

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles walked through the streets of the town that they were teleported to.

Unfortunately, people were giving disgusted looks at Tails because of his wings.

Tails noticed this and was deeply upset and troubled, and Sonic and Knuckles were too busy talking about an apartment for the three of them to notice that people were giving disgusted looks to Tails.

They eventually found an apartment and bought it.

As they walked to their apartment, Sonic started to notice that Tails was sad. But because he was in the middle of talking to Knuckles, he decided that he would talk to Tails after they settle into their apartment.

Finally, the three of them reached the apartment.

They walked in and had a look of the room.

There were three twin beds, three small wardrobes, a ensuite bathroom, an ensuite kitchen, two windows looking out into the street, a telephone, computer with internet access, a red sofa with big blue fluffy cushions, green walls and a TV...that doesn't work. (Author's note: My friend Lottie helped me with the descriptions.😝😝)

Knuckles sat on the bed. "Wow. This is great!"

Sonic and Tails nodded in agreement.

Sonic and Tails sat on the two other beds as Knuckles and Sonic talked about what to do next.

Tails was still upset about the disgusted looks that people gave and the more he thought about it, the more he wanted to cry.

Eventually he did cry, but he tried to keep it quiet so that Knuckles and Sonic wouldn't hear him. The attempt was so successful that even if the room was quiet, you wouldn't hear Tails cry.

But because the brotherly love connection between Sonic and Tails was so strong, Sonic could tell when Tails started to cry, even without hearing him.

Sonic jumped off his bed (leaving Knuckles in shock of why Sonic left him), got onto Tails' bed and sat in front of him while wiping Tails' tears away.

"Hey. What's wrong buddy?" said Sonic, cursing himself for not talking to Tails earlier when they reached their apartment.

Hearing Sonic's voice caused Tails to cry even more, but louder.

Sonic's heart broke as he heard Tails cry more and he pulled Tails into a tight hug. He didn't like it when his friends cried of sadness, especially Tails.

"Shh Tails. Don't cry, it's okay." said Sonic, rubbing Tails' back to calm him down.

After a few minutes, Tails' sobs turned into hiccups.

Sonic pulled Tails away and wiped away Tails' tears.

"What's wrong Tails? You can tell me."

Tails looked up at Sonic with his tear-stained eyes.

"When w-we were walking t-to the apartment, p-people kept giving me dirty looks. The same l-look that people back home who hated m-me gave. And it brought back b-bad memories and f-fears" Tails looked at his wings, indicating that the wings were the reason before bursting into tears once again.

Sonic's eyes widened and he looked back at Knuckles, who had the same expression Sonic had.

Sonic turned back to Tails and hugged him again, but tighter.

"Oh Tails. I'm so sorry! You've already been through this once and now you've gone through it again."

Tails buried his head in Sonic's chest and Sonic rubbed Tails' back.

"I should've noticed. I should've stopped it. I-I should've p-protected you..." said Sonic starting to cry himself, feeling guilty that he couldn't be there for Tails.

Tails and Knuckles noticed this and Knuckles immediately said "Hey. It's not your fault."

"Yeah. You were b-busy trying to s-sort out this whole h-human situation. Y-You couldn't have n-noticed what the p-people were d-doing." said Tails, still crying but trying to comfort Sonic.

Knuckles put on hand on Sonic's shoulder while Tails hugged Sonic tighter as Sonic's tears stopped falling.

"Besides, you're here now. Before, I had no one to help me. No one I could cry to. No one who cared about me." Tails sighed before continuing. "But now, I have you and Knuckles. You guys care about me. And you guys protect me."

Sonic smiled and wiped away his tears.

"You're right Tails. Me and Knuckles will always protect you. Always remember that you're never alone."

Tails finally smiled and nodded. Then Sonic pulled Tails into a hug and motioned Knuckles to join in, which he did.

As the three of them hugged, Tails said "Thanks guys. You're the best."

Sonic and Knuckles smiled and said in unison "You're welcome Tails"

The three of them continued to hug. (Author's note: Yeah, I know there's a lot of brotherly love but I love brotherly love! I'll try and do less of it in later chapters ONLY if you don't like it)

The suddenly, there was a loud explosion, and the people outside started screaming.

The three boys broke their hug and turned to the window.

They all ran to the window and looked out, and their eyes widened at what they saw.

"EGGMAN!"
