Sound of Madness

The Monster

It was dark as Kenzie Wake ran through the school corridors desperate to get him off of her trail. He was faster than she was though. She knew it was only a matter of moments before he caught her, and he wouldn't be happy.

The lights flickered on, only for a fracton of a second before they were off again. Kenzie knew he did it on purpose; he wanted her to see. And see she did. She saw his shadowed menacing figure directly in front of her, she saw his sharp, blood stained claws glistening with the flickering lights, and she most definately saw his pure white teeth sparkle as he grinned in her fear stricken face.

Without a second thought, Kenzie halted her motion. She could have sworn he was a few paces behind her. She hadn't even heard his footsteps pass her.

In the midst of her confusion, Kenzie felt a pair of arms engulf her frail figure from behind. Her eyes shut tight and she screamed at the top of her lungs. He caught her. How did she let herself get caught? It's all over now.

"Kenzie!! Kenzie baby, what's wrong?"

What? Her eyes shot open and she surveyed her surroundings. The lights were on, all of them. But it was just her in the hall, her and these arms. Wait the arms, she realized.

"Jason!" she spun herself around in her boyfriend's arms, throwing her arms around his neck and allowing her head to fall on his shoulder. Kenzie allowed herself to cry tears of relief while her boyfriend tightened his arms around her waist.

"It's ok Kenzie. I'm here now." he whispered, rubbing small circles on her skin before resting his hand on the small of her back. Kenzie suddenly felt a sharp pain shoot up her back as Jason's grip on her waist tightened further. She could feel her skin tearing and a warm liquid ooze down her lower back with Jason's claws digging into her flesh.

"Jason? Jase you're huting me. Please...please let me go." She squirmed.

"It's ok Kenzie. I'm here now." the distorted voice of her Jason ground out. "It'll only hurt a little Kenzie." he sneered.

An overwhelming fear shook through Kenzie, taking her balance and nearly causing her to collapse. The creature held her waist firmly, pulling her closer to him in the process. His face began to change at that moment, morphing from the one she had loved her whole life to the one she dreaded and feared most.

"Tricked you Kenzie." The Monster whispered in her ear, taking on her boyfriend's voice. He dimmed the lights allowing Kenzie to see only what he wanted her to see. And see she did. She saw the twinkle in his eyes as he flashed his award winning smile and raised his blood stained claws high, as if he were displaying a trophy. She saw as he went in to strike his prey...but that was the last thing Kenzie saw.
