Sitting back in her chair, Cameron sighed looking at the amount of paperwork on her desk. The workload normally wasn't so heavy, but she'd decided on taking a week of vacation time. She was never the one to take off from work, but she got unexpected news about her mother.

Rosa Sánchez. Growing up, Cameron was never close to her mother. Rosa wasn't the affectionate type. She'd show her love through gifts, and occasional smiles. She didn't think it would bother her so much, but it did. Especially since her sister was basically treated like a princess. Carmen, exactly 2years younger than her sister, was granted the pleasure of mommy daughter dates, and words of affirmation.

Carmen thinks the world of her big sister. However, Cameron doesn't think much of her other than the fact that she's spoiled. Not that she doesn't love her, it's just that she completely envies her. She grew up wondering why their mother didn't love her the same. Without a father figure in her life, she found it hard to find any form of endearment around. Can you blame her?

About a month ago, Cameron received a call from her sister telling her about their mother's state of health. Stage III breast cancer to be exact. She was infuriated that she didn't tell her any sooner. Although she wasn't the favorite, she still cared for her mother deeply. It hurt to know that she could soon lose her.

A knock on the door, pulled her out of her thoughts.

"Come in." she said while sitting up straight

"Welcome back, love. A week started to feel like forever." Steph her assistant said with a smile.

"If you ask me, it wasn't long enough." she replied with a smirk

Steph chuckled, "You know, you'll really miss this place when you retire."

"Whatever. How've you been? How's the baby?" Cameron asked her truly interested.

"Besides having to pee every 30 minutes, i'm pretty good. He's been kicking the shit out of me. But I think that's how he shows his love." Steph said rubbing her swollen belly, being completely serious.

"Girl, you stupid." she said laughing at her way of thinking.

Cameron has known Steph for almost eight years now. They met when they were interns. They would butt heads at first, but they've grown fond of each other within the first year of working together. She was super excited when she found out Steph would be having a baby. She never had any babies in her family. Besides a few distant cousins, that she never got to see often. Her excitement grew when Steph offered her the position of the God-mother. Considering Cameron is her closest friend, she didn't see anyone else worthy of the title. Although she doesn't have much experience, Cameron knows there's plenty of time to learn.

Steph is a rather attractive woman. Her big brown eyes, smooth skin, and curly hair are a sight to see. However, despite her looks, Cameron never found herself wanting her. She's too much like a sister. More so than her actual blood sister. She doesn't mean this in a malicious way towards Carmen. It's simply how she feels.

There were times when she needed her sister, but she wasn't there for her. Steph, however, was always by her side. You can't help who you grow close too. Cameron knows this all too well. Yet, she can't help but feel guilty about the way she treats Carmen. One day, she'd like to apologize for all the ill will she casted upon her. She just has to wait for the right time. Chiefly, because they're not on the best terms as of now.

"I'll be seven months tomorrow." Steph beamed while sitting down in front of her, "Andrew loves going to the prenatal classes with me. He's always wanted to be a dad."
