"Chloe, can I borrow you?" The owner of our dance school asked as she poked her head into our lesson.
I glanced over to my teacher who nodded in approval. I headed out of the studio and towards where Miss Anna was standing.
Miss Anna owned our dance school but also taught most of my lessons. She always told me how good I was but I never believed her. I didn't have a whole lot of self confidence so she always tried to tell me I was outstanding. Deep down I had a feeling I was alright but my head told me there was nothing special about me.
I closed the door to the studio behind me and we went to her office where we both took a seat.
Miss Anna's office wasn't like a formal office with a desk and things. She had a few beanbags and a laptop. She also had a drinks machine in there along with fairy lights scattered everywhere. It was so cosy.
Our dance studio was professional but it was very homely. There were pictures of us girls everywhere along with fairy lights. She didn't have any chairs except for in the cafe and just had bean bags for us all so we could be comfy and relax between lessons.
"Chloe, I've told you hundreds of times how amazing you are, but this time I'm going to show it to you," miss Anna said.
I smiled greatly because I knew something good was coming.
"You don't have to," I laughed.
"No Chloe, you're my longest running student and I basically consider you as family. I got an invite the other day for one student to take part in a project. And this project is a music video."
"A music video?!" I beamed.
Being in a music video meant meeting a celebrity and this was the part I was most excited about.
"Yes, for a band. They aren't very big in the music industry but they are big in another industry." She said.
"Dance industry?" I questioned.
"I wish," she laughed. "You start tomorrow if you are up for it?"
"Yes definitely!" I yelled. "Where is it?"
"Ok, so you need to arrive at 10am tomorrow and be there until 1pm. It is taking place at dance plaza. You know where that is right?" She asked.
"Of course I do, we have done workshops and things there before now. The only problem is that's when my lessons are?"
"It's ok, your teachers know, you can have privates to catch up."
"Thank you so much!" I yelled and engulfed miss Anna in a hug.
By the time we had finished, my lessons were over so I gathered my stuff and headed home.
It was raining but that didn't stop me walking slowly. I enjoyed out door walks.
I pulled my hair out of the tight plait it had been in from dance and began thinking about tomorrow. It was so soon.
I couldn't wait. I had so many things I wanted to know. Who were this band? And who else was in the video? What style of dance was it?
I walked through puddles to avoid the cracks in the pavement. I was quite superstitious and didn't want any bad luck for tomorrow. I carried on walking and plugged in my ear phones.
When I finally made it home I walked in and tried to see if anyone was home.
"Hello?" I shouted. "Anyone home?"
"Hi Chlo!" I heard an unmistakable voice shout. I realised it was my brother Drew.
"Hey Drew, anyone else home?" I asked.
"No, not at the minute. Dads probably out drinking and moms probably working." He sighed.
"It's sad but it's true." I said. "Listen, I'm not going to dance tomorrow, I'm taking part in a project at dance plaza. I'm going to be in a music video!"
"Oh my gosh, Chlo I'm so proud of you!" He shouted.
"So instead of giving me a lift to dance tomorrow would you be able to drop me at dance plaza?" I asked. "Please?"
"Of course, anything for you." He put his arm around me and I smiled.
Even if I couldn't count on my mom or dad to be there for me, I could always count on Drew. He was the best big brother anyone could ask for.
I couldn't drive yet because I kept failing my test. To me practicing for dance exams was more important. Drew had to drop me off nearly everywhere. He didn't mind though because after he dropped me off he would just go and work his shift at Starbucks.
"I'm going to bed if you don't mind, I'm exhausted and need to get ready for tomorrow," I told him.
"Of course I don't, I will be soon as well if mom or dad don't come home in the next hour." He smiled.
"Night Drew,"
"Night Chlo," he replied and I headed up to my room.
My room was the loft conversion so I had a lot of space and my own bathroom. I still called it the loft because really it was. I used to share a bedroom with Drew but we got to a certain age and it just wasn't suitable.
I decided to have a shower before I went to bed so I hopped in and began to wash my hair. I made sure I felt fresh after a long hot day at dance then got out, dried off and moisturised.
I half heartedly dried my hair and then French plaited it because I couldn't be bothered. I clambered into bed in my pyjamas and flicked through my phone.
Only then did the reality hit me of what I was going to do tomorrow. Depending on the popularity of this band - the whole world might see me? What if I wasn't good enough?
My mind told me I shouldn't do it but my heart told me to do it.
I felt scared yet excited. Petrified yet curious.
I couldn't decide wether to turn up or not. Pondering on my thoughts I fell to sleep only imagining what tomorrow would bring.
