“blaze” I yelled running in the direction I had just seen his head over the crowds “blaze” I yelled louder this time and I saw him turn his head “blaze you blind bat” I called and kept running. I hated being average sized I blended in with the crowds whereas with blaze being so tall and his strange lollop I can always tell where he is.
“Hope?” he called stopping. I kept running towards him, trying to stop but my shoes slipped on the slippery floor. We collided. “Hello there” he said
“Hi” I said grinning up at him “want to come over and you know meet my family?”
“what now?” he asked
“yeah” I replied laughing at his shocked expression
“no warning?”
“sure they gave me tons but I just kept forgetting to tell you”
“so you wan to me to cancel all my plans to come see your family?”
“really?” I laughed “what plans wouldn’t you cancel for me?”
“a band try out”
“shut up you. You do not have a band try out! you don’t even have a band”
“no your right but I could have had one! Then what would have done?” he laughed.
We were laughing and walking along holding hands. When a shadow fell over us
“told you I’d get you Hope”
“beth” I said looking up at the girl who had been my best friend since we were 5. The girl who knew more about me than anyone else. The girl who could read me like a book. The girl I didn’t even recognise anymore.
“maybe your little boyfriend could step back awhile so that we can get some stuff sorted” she said with a little smile
“or maybe he could stay” said blaze
“sorry Beth maybe another time we have more important things to be doing” I said
“you’re the same pathetic wimp you were a years ago. I honestly don’t know what he sees in you. He’s pretty fit really and deserves better than your stupid ugly self. Come on lanky boy don’t you want this?” she said flicking her hair.
I’d heard enough “lets go blaze” I pulled at his hand, walking towards Florida
“You never told me what her problem was with you” he said getting in the divers side of Florida
“its nothing really just her banging on about the past”
“if she gives you anymore trouble tell me okay?”
“yes okay blaze, over protective much” I said laughing
“no I just couldn’t deal with it if she hurt you”
“she wont hurt me, don’t worry”
We were driving down our little dirt track that leads to the squeaky cow. And the radio was crackling. Blazes face was full of concentration. And in this moment, I wanted a camera to capture it and remember it.
“come o- what” blaze had noticed me staring at him
“have I ever told you how much I love you?” I asked not taking my eyes off his
“I don’t think you have”
“I love you to the stars above”
“I will love you forever and a day, always have always will” he said getting out of Florida “lets go meet you family”
“You seem almost excited”
“I’ve never been inside a house boat” he said grinning his childish goofy grin.
“Well come on then” I said running towards the squeaky cow with the sun setting behind us laughing and dancing in the last rays of sun. I will always remember this summer.
