...

Whispers floated across the room as she stepped onto the stage.  She refused to look out at the crowd; instead she simply focused on taking each step.  A single sheet of paper was gripped in her clammy palm.  To her it seemed like hours until she finally heard the old wooden bench creak softly under her weight as she sat in the center; placing the paper on the small stand in front of her.  She softly slipped her foot out of her simple black flats and placed her barefoot on the iron pedal, feeling the cool metal beneath her toes.  Taking a deep breath she placed her fingers on the icy keys.  Exhaling she began to move her fingers.  Starting at a G Flat her able fingers flew up and down the scale.  The series of notes bounced off the walls and hushed the crowd.  Melodious noises came from this center of attraction and everyone sat still in awe.  With every press of her thin fingers the young woman brought a simple beauty into the seemingly dull brown room.  All too soon the piece had been played to perfection and the woman’s fingers lifted from the keys.  After a few moments of complete silence the room exploded in applause and cheers.  People stood to their feet, as the woman also rose to take a bow.
