Sometimes people have a hidden past, or a second life. This book has both.
Warning, there is some description of torture in this book. I will give a warning before it begins and give a light summary of what happened at the end of the chapter.

Scream. That is the reaction they want from me. And I am weak, so I give it to them. I let loose an ear-piercing wail of noise. I do not use any words, no cry for help, no plea meant to reach others' ears. No one who may be gracious enough to consider assisting me can hear my bellows. So I scream.
The two wretched delinquent men who are taking turns whipping me with cat-o-nine-tails laugh at my misery. Every time I allow even a whimper to escape my cracked, dry lips they both whip me again. I am unable to fight against them, for they have bound my arms and legs to a pole standing erect in the center of my cage. And so they taunt me.
"Why don't you wriggle your way out and run away, little kid?"
"If you manage to get out of this cage, we will let you go home free!"
"Heck! If you get your butt off of this stick you can go wherever the blazes you want!"
And then they continue their laughter and torture.
IT IS NOW SAFE TO READ IF YOU SKIPPED THE TORTURE PORTION
This chapter was very light, but it still may trigger someone.
The unknown narrator begins by talking about their screams, and how no one who could or would possibly help him or her can hear them, but they screams anyways. S/he believes that s/he is weak.
Every time s/he screams two men whip her/him, causing her/him to scream even more. Then they go on to taunt her/him verbally. End of chapter.
