Eddie's POV-
~
Bang bang.
Blood flies everywhere, specks landing on me, the walls, and floor.
I see him tumble to the floor in a heap, gasping for breath.
I fire my weapon at the other man, and then I call my partner's name.
Once. Twice. Three times.
But to no avail.
He didn't answer, nor acknowledge that I was there.
And it frightened me.
All these thoughts were flying through my head as I ran faster than a cheetah towards him.
Cradling him in my arms, I start to weep.
And then I hear him stop breathing.
He was gone.

I shoot straight up out of my chair in the waiting room, gasping and sweating.
I look around and see the whole Reagan family around me.
Including the Commissioner.
"Sir," I say, saluting him.
But Frank waves me off.
"At ease," he mumbles, acting like he's in a whole other world.
And I understand.
He had been in this situation before.
Jamie had told me the story of how his brother got shot in the line of duty.
He still visits Joe's grave at least once a month.
I was just about to sit back down when a female doctor comes out.
"Reagan family?"
Even though I'm not a Reagan, I stand up anyway.
Jamie was my partner. And my best friend.
"He can take visitors now. I wouldn't recommend more than 5 at a time," says the doctor, giving us a weak smile.
Everyone breathes a sigh of relief.
I sit back down in my chair.
I'll let the family see Jamie first.
"Um, Eddie?" says a voice behind me.
I turn around and find Jamie's sister-in-law, Linda.
"Don't you want to go see him?" she asks.
I shake my head no.
"I thought his family would like to see him first."
Linda grins at me.
"Well, I know Frank, Danny, Erin, and Henry will go back there. You can take my spot."
I start to protest but she waves me on.
"Go on now. Before I change my mind."
And then she adds, "I'm a nurse anyway. I can go see him anytime I want."
I nod gratefully.
I actually HAD been itching to see my partner.
I hoped he was okay.
