"Mari, Mari, Mari!" Sarienna chanted.

"What, what, what?" Mariette asked.

"Did you get a role!?"

Mariette shrugged, "I don't know, they haven't posted the Les Miserables cast list yet."

Sarienna's eyes bulged, "You must be dying to know!"

"Eh, not really, I've been busy with other... things..." It was no lie. Ever since Mariette had handed over her crystal to that Pablo-man, depression clouded her thoughts with no mercy. But, she didn't know why. After all, it was just a rock!

"Oh yeah! We didn't finish our 'how-to-flirt-with-Marcy' lesson yet! No wonder you seem so gloomy!" Sari concluded. Mariette gave her a half-hearted smile and lied, "Yep, that's it." "Do you have Theatre Arts today? That would be the optimal time to lure him in with your irresistable charm." "No, but we have biology together." "EWW! No flirting allowed while dissecting a frog!" Mariette chuckled, "You'd rather dissect a human in the middle of the night than a dead frog?" Sarienna beamed, "Mmhm!" "Your logic, oh violent one, puzzles me."

They stood in the hallway, outside Sarienna's locker. Mariette clutched her books tight to her chest while Sarienna briskly looked herself over in the mini locker mirror. She smoothed her short cropped, slick black hair and bangs. Lipstick was reapplied and mascara was examined. Her brown eyes turned disapproving.

"You look wonderful," Mariette insisted, "I don't know why you have to wear so much makeup." Sari smiled, "Oh doll, because it's so much fun to be pampered! If you don't wear makeup to my Halloween Party, I am kicking you out!" "UGH fine!" Mariette groaned, "When is it again?" Sarienna frowned, "This Friday! You forgot!?" "What!? No, of course I didn't... er... forget!"

"Hmph!"

Sarienna grabbed her books and slammed the locker door shut, "Walk with me, Ladyfriend." Mariette raised an eyebrow, but obliged. "So," Sarienna began, "I have a grand scheme!" "Which is...?" "This Friday, you come over an hour early, and I'll prep your face with the best of the best of my makeup! You can wear one of my dresses, or we can go buy a superb one! We'll even do up your hair-" "But I like my hair." "Hold on! As I was saying, we'll make you look fabulous, and when Marcy comes, he will be so astonished! He'll dance with you right on the spot! And then, he will want a second date, maybe to the movies or something, and darling you will have your first boyfriend! KA-BAM! What do you think?!" Mariette didn't quite know what to say to that, "Er, sounds probable..." Sarienna grinned mischeviously, "And if it doesn't work, I'll dissect him in his sleep!" Mariette gagged.

"Well bye, Lover girl! This is my class!" Sarienna departed into a nearby classroom as Mariette called, "See ya!" before hurrying to Biology. All throughout her class, she felt Demarco's eyes on her, begging her to look at him. But Mariette just ignored him. If Sarienna's Master Plan worked, she wouldn't be able to ignore him anymore.

Today they were not dissecting any frogs, instead a review of the past lesson was presented on the Promethean board. Mariette doodled lazily on a homework assignment. She was drawing a picture of Sarienna sneaking into Demarco's bedroom at night with a scalpel. Mariette knew how this picture would end, and it wouldn't be pretty. She stopped and examined her sketch.

Mariette used to be stellar when drawing manga, but now their eyes were too big or their mouths too small. She sighed and drew some clouds next to Demarco's bedroom. While Mrs. Zania claimed clouds were inspiring, Mariette just thought they were easy to draw. But when even her doodle of clouds failed, she dropped her pen in frustration.

Demarco glanced at her with curiousity, so Mariette hid her face under her hood. She was not in the mood. All she could think about was her stupid stone. How could she have given it away so easily? Why was it so precious to her? Mariette didn't even realize she was crying until her hand furiously wiped away tears. This was madness, she couldn't handle it!

Mariette needed her crystal back.
