She looks through her swollen eye,
looks at her blurred world;
the faded life
she lives.
She inspects the broken glass,
the torn clothes,
the stained sheets,
the scattered items.
Damaged eyes scan over
a small, stuffed animal,
a monochrome, hooded sweatshirt,
and a little, colourful picture.
Eyes drift closed, she imagines
being in his arms,
a happy life
away from her home.
Here, he'll never let her go,
(he never would anyway,)
and she doesn't have to fake smiles
in her new life.
When she opens her eyes
after more of her fantasy
she's wrapped herself in the hoodie
and is cuddling the animal and doodle.
Tears have fallen,
injuries throbbing,
as she waits
for her fantasy to become reality.
