Chapter Six

I groggily opened my eyes. I rolled over so I could look at my clock. It read 5:30. I saw London sprawled across her whole bed and laughed. Her feet were hanging completely off and her hair was covering her whole face.

I slowly got up out of bed, deciding to go for a run. I walked over to my dresser, pulling out my favorite pair of black, neon pink, and neon yellowing running shorts with a sports bra and loose fitting t- shirt. I walked over to the bathroom and quickly slipped out of my pajamas and changed into my new clothes. I bent over and collected all my hair into a ponytail on top of my head, walking to the door. Before leaving I slipped on my running shoes and grabbed my phone with a pair of headphones.

I slipped out the door and shut it quietly behind me, making sure not to wake up London. I walked out to the parking lot and started off. I started off slow, then started picking up the pace. I had my headphones in and ran to the beat of whatever song started playing. I felt my feet hit the cold hard pavement and I shut out the rest of the world.

I do this a lot whenever I run... I shut out the world and enter my own little bubble. Most days this was the only way for me to keep my sanity. Running is my "me" time. Time for me to think about anything and everything.

Today I decide not to think about anything. I just kept running and running, focusing on the in and out of my breathing and my feet hitting the ground. After what felt a short time, like I looked down at my phone. It said 6:30! I had already been running for an hour. I turned around and tried my find my way back to the college with little luck.

I guess I had been so caught up in running I hadn't been paying attention to where I was going. I looked around trying to find someone who could give me directions. I finally found a Starbucks on the corner of the street and walked in. When I got inside, everyone and turned and looked at me. I became very self conscious knowing I probably looked like a mess. My hair was probably half out of its ponytail and my face was probably bright red and slimy looking too.

I walked up to the counter and asked the guy standing there if he knew the way back to the college. He looked at me for a second and laughed.

"What's so funny?" I asked him.

"Nothing really, you must be really lost. Did you run all the way over here?" he replied, looking me in the eye.

"Well, yeah. I wouldn't look like this if I drove, now would I?" I smiled at him. He wasn't bad looking. He had dark brown spiky hair and deep brown eyes. He was really tan and looked like he was in really good shape. When he smiled I could see his teeth were perfectly white and straight. He also had the cutest dimples!

"I guess not," he said laughing. "How 'bout this, I have to drive back up to the college myself after my shift ends. When I'm done here I'll drive you back up there too?"

I pondered this. I really didn't want to run back to the college. I hadn't noticed before but my legs were killing me. But, I also didn't know anything about this guy. Could I really trust him to drive me back home safely. After thinking about it for a minute I decide why the heck not?

"Sure! That would be great! Thanks!"

"My pleasure. I couldn't let a pretty girl like you go run out there by yourself without knowing where you're going." I felt myself start to blush. No one besides Luke had ever called me pretty.

"Well, thank you," I said smiling.

I sat in the Starbucks with the guy, Noah, for another hour before we left. We got into his car and pulled out of the Starbucks parking lot. He turned the radio on to some pop station and Rough Waters by Travie McCoy ft. Jason Mraz came on. I sang along softly. After the first chorus I realized Noah had turned down the music and was watching me.

"What?" I asked, embarrassed. I didn't like singing in front of people, ever. I was horrible. Always pitchy and out of tune.

"Nothing you're just really cute when you're singing." I looked away. I thought Noah was cute but he was flirting, like a lot, and was starting to make me uncomfortable. I barely knew him and just wanted to get to the college soon.

Minutes later we pulled into the college parking lot. He pulled up to the curb so I could get out. Before I had fully stepped out of the car he grabbed my hand.

"What?" I snapped as I pulled my hand back. I turned around and saw he had his hands up in surrender.

"I was just going to ask you for your number, sorry..." He said, a shocked look on his face.

"No, I'm sorry. I overreacted. Here," I said as I wrote my number on a napkin sitting in the car. Before He could say anything else, I got up out of the car and walked up to my dorm building. I climbed the stairs and left myself into my room.

I walked in and saw London sitting on her bed reading "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green. I ran across the room and jumped on her bed. She put down the book and glared at me.

"Really, Katie! I was just getting to the good part!"

"Sooorrrrrrryyyyyyy," I said with a smile on my face. "I just thought you would want to hear about my morning and about this guy I met but, I guess noooooooot!" I hopped off her bed and headed to the bathroom getting ready to shower.

"Katie! Wait, you met a guy? Tell me! Tell me please!!!"

"Nope! Too late!"

"Nooooooooooo!" she yelled as I closed the bathroom door. "Kathleen, you had better open this door right now!"

"Okaaaaaaayyyyy..." I said as I slowly opened the door.

"Tell. Me. NOW!" London yelled at me as she dragged me back over to her bed.

"Okay, okay! Well I went for a run this morning and ended up getting lost. I found a Starbucks and walked inside figuring somebody would be able to help me find my way back. Well, I walked in and asked the guy at the cash register. He was really cute and said he could just give me a ride back after his shift was over. I accepted his offer and let him drive me back. When we got here he asked for my number so we could talk some more!"

"OMG! You're so lucky! Stuff like this never happens to meeeee."

"Wait, I won't be able to get a hold of him because Niall has my phone. Oh my goodness, I meet Niall today!" I yelled. I looked at the clock it said ten thirty. We had agreed to meet at Starbucks at noon! I only had one and a half hours to get ready! For any other girl this wouldn't have been a problem, but I take forever to get ready. It takes at least forty five minutes to an hour just to do my hair.

"Help me!" I yelled as I ran to the bathroom so I could shower, "Pick out something really cute for me to wear!"

"Okay!" I heard her call before I quickly jumped in the shower.
