"Your opponents horse very fast but doesn't a lot of stamina. She will probably try to ram you, so don't let them get to close." I nodded absentmindedly not even looking at him. Luke snapped his fingers under my nose. "Are you even listening to me?"
"I'll be fine stop worrying," I said rolling my eyes at him. Luke opened his mouth to speak but was cut of by a bell signaling the start of the races. I grabbed my helmet from the bench behind me then walked onto the field as a man shouted: "and representing the west team is Shannon and her horse Rose!" The helmet had a full face visor to keep the dust the houses kick up out of the riders eyes so I couldn't see my opponents face. She was riding a tall cream colored horse. Her leather armor had blue swirl designs across her shoulders and down her back. "Show off," I thought as the south rider did a combination of pulling back on her horses rains and digging her heels into the creature's side to make it rear and winy. "Rose can do better then that I thought as, I took his rains from the stable hand that brought him onto the field.
Now your probably thinking, why on earth would you name a male horse Rose? Well I'll tell you, was out cutting roses at the manner I worked at. I heard somethings behind me so I turned  around and standing there in front of me was a horse. It was beautiful with chestnut fur and white socks. had no idea were it was from. I tried to back away but the horse just came closer and closer. Then when i was up against the garden shed and couldn't back up the horse came up to me and stuck his nose into the roses that I had forgotten I was caring. Long story short I used the roses to bring him to the stable. I was aloud to ride him, and we all lived happily ever after.
Anyway, at a single from the announcer I mounted and walked Rose to starting line. I could feel him tensing underneath me, I got as close to his back as I could. Everything seemed to be holding it breath. A single stroke of the gigantic bell rang out across the field. We raced towards the first hurdle, horses hooves making dull thuds on the hard turf of the field. instinct took over as soon as we started running. We jump the obstacle without a problem then the next. There was a fork in front of us whether path split in two. I gently tugged on Rose's rains and, he turned towards the right path. We jumped two more hurdles with slightly more difficulty due to the closer confines of the path. Then the left wall seemed to fall away marriage back together. Ahead of us was a flat out sprint. The two horses were neck and neck as, they charge towards the small pond they would have to wade through. Then everything went wrong. The south rider's horse gave an extra spurt of speed and pulled in front of Rose. He winged in fright and and nearly fell as he tried to avoid running headlong into the back of the cream horse. Have the crowed booing and the others were clapping and cheering. By the time Rose recovered his footing The South team was already halfway across the pond. "The water will ware them out the water will were them out," was all I could think as we desperately tried to close the gap between us and the blue team. We leaped into the pond and Rose started have waking have swimming though it. The water came up to his chest and neither of us minded the cold. We finally charged up the opposite bank and on towards the final obstacles. I knew there was no way we could catch up but we charged towards the finish line, bushes and leaping over fences and hurtles. Then I realized something, we where gaining on the south, we were close enough that I could see her horses sides heaving. " I Just need a little bit more speed ," I whispered to Rose. It seemed like he understood me because the distance between the two horses was closing, soon they where almost even with each other. I remembered what Luke had said just before the race, "your opponents horse very fast but doesn't a lot of stamina," they were running out of energy. Rose bounded of three more obstacles the finish line was in site. "I think it's time to show them what we can do," thought. I gave Rose a sharp jab with my heels, he surged forward. The finish line was only fifteen meters ahead. The horse where neck and neck. I did one last desperate move. I jerked Rose's rains to the left, he plowed into South horses shoulder. Not expecting it the lager horse stumbled. We shot ahead across the finish line. We had won.
